1. Back To Basics 21st Birthday

The Warehouse / The Garage, Leeds

Twenty-one years is a long time in dance music — we should know. Remaining on the pulse of a movement as fleeting as this game is no easy feat without hardline dedication, but no language speaks louder — lasts longer — than good, quality original house music. Just ask Back To Basics, a crew of house addicts gearing up to celebrate their 21st year in the business with two monumental parties this month.

Pumping up the birthday celebrations on Saturday 3rd November, legendary duo Basement Jaxx will leave you asking where your head's at when you wake up following morning/afternoon. Before then, though, the dancefloor will be on red alert with a rare DJ set from the duo that'll leave you free to do your thing all night at The Warehouse in Leeds — the event's beloved home town.

Following that, on Saturday 24th November, round two will see Dave Beer's boisterous brigade line-up the venerable house heroes like a Sunday pub team itching for a brawl, except far cooler and much less uncouth. Chicago-born Chez Damier, NY's Maurice Fulton and the UK's Classic boss Luke Solomon (more TBA) will supply the main offensive, a dynamic frontline that will take a softly, softly, build-it-slowly approach to break down the deep house defences on a dancefloor that really knows its stuff.

Started by Dave Beer at Music Factory with co-founder Alistair Cooke (now sadly departed), Back to Basics serves as Leeds' most heritable party. Engrained with the spirit of acid house, it's stood as the city's weathered royal (rave) oak since '91. Remaining fun and musically on-point along the way, moving with the times, it's gone from a smiley face mash-up booking everyone from Sasha to Goldie, to one of the city's most trusted sources for new house music. Representing its roots and where it's positioned today over two events, this is the perfect chance to pay homage to Leeds' most loyal party.
