Bodily Functions

Accidental Records revisit Matthew Herbert's modern classic

Widely regarded as one the most crucial house albums of the last decade eleven years on, Matthew Herbert's 'Bodily Function' has been pegged by Accidental Records for re-release, plus remix package, on 4th March 2013.

Featuring the dulcet vocals of wife Dani Siciliano and Shingai Shinowa, now of The Noisettes, the original is still a celebrated modern classic, remembered perhaps most notably for anthem 'The Audience'.

Though, to single out moments undermines the entire ethic of this LP. Described as a “high art” by Pitchfork's Paul Cooper in 2001, 'Bodily Functions' is most lauded for its subversion of house music as part of its overall holistic formula, which deconstructed and reassembled pre-existing rules in a way that continues to stand the test of time even today.

As homage to this seminal moment in dance music's history, Accidental Records has also compiled reworks of the album's tracks from a range of respected artists, including Mr Oizo, DJ Koze, Plaid, Dave Aju, Recloose, Jamie Lidell and Herbert himself. Streams below for a taste...
