Sankeys Gets Girl DJs

Manchester club aims to reclaim its crown with three chicks manning the decks.

Top Manchester club Sankeys will be calling on the talents of three female DJs this year, in a bid to win back its crown as one of the best clubbing venues in the UK.

Minimal DJ Scarlett Etienne, Manchester's own Mistress de Funk and Big Brother winner Kate Lawler have all been named as new residents at the venue that re-launched with a full refurb last September.

It is the first time that girl jocks have been offered residencies at the historic club.

Top Talent: Scarlett Etienne

Exceeded Expectations

"The new Sankeys has been amazing so far and exceeded all our expectations," reported club director Dave Vincent.

"We are getting great crowds in every weekend.

"A few guest DJs have really impressed me and I have decided to give them a bigger opportunity at the club to really establish themselves."

Acid and tech-house spinner Jon Carter has also been named as a new monthly resident, having won the crowd over at the launch party of the newly decorated club.

Big Brother

Although some critics may pour scorn on Sankeys for signing up Big Bro's Kate Lawler, David is quick to defend the reality TV star.

"She really took her chance and shone," he said.

"I wasn't sure what to expect - I don't think anyone did, really - but she really showed she has some talent and knows good music.

"I asked her to become a resident as soon as she had finished her set."

Scarlett Etienne

Scarlett Etienne was named by US DJ duo Gabriel & Dresden as a name to watch out for in 2007.

She plays a blend of minimal and house that verges on DC10 territory.

Mistress de Funk is something of a homegrown talent and a bit of a favourite amongst Sankeys' clubbers.
