East is East

Bangkok comes together for one-day dance festival

With electronic music very much a global commodity these days, new markets have began to emerge with increasing regularity. The latest region to take a shining to the sound is South-East Asia, with Bangkok’s Together Festival very much indicative of the fact.

After the success of last year’s inaugural outing featuring Afrojack, LMFAO and more, it’s hardly a surprise that it’s making a comeback either. So while the promoters really laid down a marker in 2011 – they’ve actually managed to trump it this time around, with a veritable array of hip-hop royalty and electro-styled legends embarking on Thailand’s capital for the 19th January extravaganza.

LA rapper Snoop Dogg (or should that be Snoop Lion?) is the biggest draw, but beyond his commercial appeal lies a host of A-list DJ pairings, not least French Grammy winning pair Justice as well as the party starting talents of dynamic duo AN21 and Max Vangelli.

Ubiquitous names aside, Together will also play host to fledgling figures such as Quintino, Laidback Luke’s protégé who’s beginning to make his presence known on a global scale. If you’ve yet to hear of the young Dutchman, be sure to check out his remix of Cidinho & Doca's "Rap Das Armas" on YouTube. Indeed, nearly 3 million of you already have. Multifaceted hip-hop/electro leaning Thai based artists such as Thaitanium and Bangkok Invaders complete the line-up.

‘As an emerging name in worldwide music fairs and festivals’ Together, the promoters tell us, ‘aims to put Bangkok’s music scene on the map’. And with line-ups on this scale, only a fool would bet against them doing exactly that.
