ADANA TWINS: SEEING DOUBLE

It may not be in blood but the Adana Twins, consisting of Take It Easy (real name Benni) and Frisco (aka Friso), have found a common brotherly love in parties and exotic foods. “We were sitting in a Turkish restaurant trying to figure out what to call ourselves,” Take It Easy from the deep house duo explains. “Then we saw this dish where two pieces of meat together are called Adana – ha ha ha.”

When drawn away from piles of protein, the Adana Twins developed a selection of well-received releases on Exploited and Judi Records. The dark 'Heliumcowboy' and collaborations with Hamburg's deep house surgeon Doctor Dru on the slow disco steppers of 'Supreme' and 'Juicy Fruit' marked their initial arrival.

Last year's 'Everyday EP' led the Adana Twins to feelgood Balearic deep house which was found topping the Beatport chart via the hits 'Strange' and 'Everyday'. The response to these tracks was pretty mind-boggling. “Well, we knew when we had finished the EP that the songs were good,” Take It Easy muses. “Even with all of this in hand, we didn't quite expect the response we got.”

With huge support from Maya Jane Coles following the release of these tracks, things seemed to slip seamlessly into place — all helped by a certain attitude. “Having fun is top of the list, after that good stuff just seems to happen,” says Take It Easy.

The seem to have a knack for creating a hit, so DJ Mag wonders if two pairs of hands are better than one. “There are plenty of advantages,” Frisco announces. “There are different cultural and musical influences that inspire our music and bring different things to the table.”
The differences are dominant throughout the Twins' back catalogue. Early track 'Heliumcowboy' is a late-night tech house rider with stifling vocal samples, whereas the most recent 'Reaction' is a clean-cut deep house discothèque-enchanter.

For Adana Twins, the future continues to look bright and they've drafted in more hands for an upcoming collaboration EP, 'La Fique', with fellow German classic house duo Robosonic. The phrase 'Too many cooks' springs to mind, but Take It Easy reassures DJ Mag: “It's great, it somehow fits together really well.”

The result is an extension of both the Adana Twins and Robosonic sound. Funky synths and layered strings hint towards the charming '80s nostalgia of the latter, while the clean groove-laden basslines and select vocal samples mark the distinct continuation of the Adana Twins.

For the meantime, the duo are keeping quiet about the more distant plans. However, just to tease us a bit, Frisco finishes: “There will be a few tours, but I can't say too much now. We also have a new EP on Exploited, where we worked with another great singer.”
