KAPPA FUTUR FESTIVAL

Our lowdown on the Torino dance fest

The Italiansas Mike Simonetti is fond of proclaiming—tend to 'do it better'. And when it comes to hosting electronic music festivals, there's simply no questioning the merits of the Kappa Futur Festival or —to give it its name without the iconic branding—the Torino Summer Music Festival.

This summer's edition takes place over the weekend of the 13th and 14th July, with the action kicking off at midday and going all the way through until midnight on both days. Torino's Parco Dora promises to make for a spectacular setting, but it's one that's buoyed by a mouthwatering line up that speaks to fans of underground house and techno especially.

The first day will be headlined by the 'King of Clubs' himself, Mr. Carl Cox, who'll be returning this year after his spectacular debut at the festival in 2012. Cox will be joined by French trio Appolonia, house music luminary Kerri Chandler, techno's new great hope, Midnight Operator (who'll be playing live—as well as Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus and Italian techno innovator, Joseph Capriati). And that's just for starters!

The second day is headlined by a DJ whose relationship with Italian techno lovers is practically without peer, M-nus boss Richie Hawtin. Another lauded DJ in these parts, Italian native Marco Carola, will be joining him on deck duty, with Leon and Ellen Allien also thrown in for good measure. Those of you seeking electro/crossover sounds, meanwhile, are sure to be appeased by the appearance of both Erol Alkan and Zombie Nation.

With festival tickets starting from just €30 until the end of May, the Torino Summer Music Festival offers more than a viable excuse to go large in Northern Italy this summer.
