PETE TONG TO LEAVE THE UK

Radio One don heading to LA

The undisputed 'voice of the weekend', Pete Tong has announced that he will be relocating to Los Angeles later this month.

Some UK readers may not realise that we are not the only ones enjoying Tong's dulcet tones on a Friday night. But the Radio 1 DJ also runs an 'All Gone Pete Tong' show, which is syndicated in over 80 FM stations across the United States.

He has also used this concept to bring underground European talent to the USA's biggest events. On September 28th he hosts an arena at TomorrowWorld which features Dubfire, Breach, Maya Jane Coles, Joris Voorn and Michel de Hey.

But what does all this mean for the UK? Well, the good news is that Tong will continue to run his weekly BBC Radio 1 show along with The Essential Mix, although some will now be recorded from the US.

Here is Pete's view on the move:

“I’m looking forward to being based in Los Angeles. The electronic dance music scene in the USA has reached a critical mass and the opportunities for our world are taking us into uncharted territory. I feel now it’s essential to be in the middle of all that. LA is an inspiring and creative city where content is king and I look forward to giving the rest of the world a more detailed insight into what’s going on (in the USA) whilst also looking for better opportunities to represent all the brilliant new artists/ producers and DJ's breaking through in the UK and Europe. I have been involved in radio throughout my career and I think this fresh perspective is going to enable me to make some very exciting shows.”

DJ Mag would like to wish Pete all the best on his move. You can continue catch his BBC Radio Show every Friday night from 9pm
