HEARTS OF GLASS

Stubborn Heart make electronics as art

Electronic duo Stubborn Heart haver a new release out at the end of this month on One Little Indian – the label Bjork has been signed to for the last two decades. The single, 'Penetrate', has been picking up radio play on discerning music shows, the band being a particular favourite of BBC 6Music's Lauren Laverne.

'Penetrate' utilises an off-kilter garagey beat, warm keys and dreamy, ethereal male vocals that recall the early work of the Junior Boys from Canada.

The garage element is picked up by Walter Ego from Sheffield on his remix, turning it into a deep shuffly 4/4 thing, while the Stubborn Heart guys themselves make it more broken and mechanistic on their own revamp. The single is backed by 'Nighthawks', another fine example of their alt.electro-pop soul.

The arty, beautifully-shot moody video — all coloured ink flowing into water and models in their underwear sat in empty deserted houses — will undoubtedly enhance their stock further. Out September 30th.
