ONES TO WATCH: SICK INDIVIDUALS

With Miller Genuine Draft

Sick Individuals are the latest in a long line of electronic artists hailing from Holland. Their tough, progressive sound has won them fans across the planet and they have been a regular fixture on the Beatport charts over the last few months.

Their latest track ‘Lights of Neon’ – which you can exclusively stream below – is out on November 22nd.

You can be sure that when Axwell and Dannic both want to work with you – you are doing something right. We caught up with the Sick duo – who are most definitely Ones to Watch!

Please introduce yourselves. Who are you and where are you from?
Hi! We are Jim and Ray, the Sick Individuals. We live in Hilversum, a (media) city near Amsterdam

Describe your sound in 5 words:
Energetic, powerful, melodic, catchy, SICK.

Tell us a bit about how you guys met and started working together?
We met each other at the School of the Arts (Music) four years ago but we started producing together as a duo in 2010.

We quickly found out that we had a lot in common with each other music-wise. But we also found we have the same approach concerning our productions – mixing, producing, etc. We have musical chemistry on stage and in the studio. This is pretty important, because we’re in this for the long run!

What is it about Holland that makes it produce so many EDM artists?
House music has been a huge part of Dutch culture for decades, so like many of the DJs and producers from here, we are all influenced by many years of electronic dance music. We can’t really predict where the Dutch scene is going at the moment, but what we do notice is that things are speeding up. The divide between being a good local producer and DJ, or a famous DJ in Holland who has an international career, is getting smaller. That status is relatively easier to reach now.

Tell us about your new track ‘Lights of Neon’ which we are premiering today?
‘Lights Of Neon’ is a club track that we have worked on for quite a while. We've been testing this track for about six months now and it's finally finished in every detail. We are really excited and happy with the end result. The track is hard but progressive; it has a catchy melody and hits hard on the dance floor. It got early support from Hardwell, R3hab, Nicky Romero and was dropped by Danny Howard on BBC Radio 1! The track will be released on OneLove Recordings on the 22th of November.

We are about to launch our annual Top 100 Clubs Poll. Which clubs will be getting your vote?
Awesome! Well there are a lot of wicked clubs worldwide. In Ottawa Canada there is a club called Era it's a small venue but with a lot of excitement and a fantastic crowd. Also Harlot in San Francisco has an amazing vibe, we really enjoyed playing there, the people are so close to the DJ booth it's so much fun to play and share the passion for this music! And of course the Ministry of Sound in London. But we still have a lot to discover, so we are curious for your Top 100!

And what is your favourite global city to play or party in?
To party Ibiza, Miami and Vegas really standout, we had awesome times there but we can't remember that much of it! New York is an amazing city to play and party as well!

Finally, what can we expect from Sick Individuals in the next few months?
Some originals and a banging remix! So hopefully we can conquer the Beatport charts again, after two number one hits (‘I AM’ & ‘Blueprint’) in two months. And a lot of gigs worldwide. Exciting times!
