VITAL LABEL: EL DIABLOS SOCIAL CLUB

Manchester's El Diablos Social Club

Who's behind it?
Neil Scott had been running parties as El Diablos Social Club in and around Manchester since 2003 with guests including Greg Wilson, Todd Terje, Prins Thomas, Rub N Tug, Metro Area, Maurice Fulton, Daniel Wang, Hercules & Love Affair, Danny Krivit, Crazy P, Toby Tobias, Steve Kotey — and is also resident at The Garden Festival in Croatia. Chris Massey is one of the promoters behind the Electric Elephant festival as well as working at the legendary Paper Recordings, so their paths naturally crossed more often than not.

“Neil signed a collaboration between myself and DJ Rocca at the back end of 2012,” Chris tells DJ Mag. “I suggested getting involved with him on the label, and we figured that between us having a mutual love of the same sounds — and with us both cutting our teeth working at Electriks in Manchester (Electric Chair RIP) — we could really make a go of the label and put out not just our own productions but also music we really like by artists we respect.”

Sounds like?
“Anything goes for us really... from chuggy, spaced out disco to Adriatic-tinged sounds and Balearic-esque numbers. Sunshine-drenched, disco-inspired shufflers right up to straight-up tops-off sweaty dancefloor destroyers. From the beach... down to the basement... if it sounds interesting, then we'll give it a go!”

Who's currently on it?
DJ Rocca (Ajello, CrimeaX, Erodiscotheque & Daniele Baldelli collaboration), Neil Diablo (EDSC, Paper Recordings), Chris Massey (EDSC, Paper Recordings, ISM), Joe Morris (Paper Recordings, Clandestino) and remix action has so far come from Begin (Aficionado Recordings), Ron Basejam (Crazy P), Craig Bratley (Birdscarer, Magic Feet), Flash Atkins (Paper Recordings) & Will TRAMP! (Homoelectric).

Who's playing it?
“We're only three releases in but support has come in on each release from the likes of Eric Duncan, Bonar Bradberry, Severino (Horse Meat Disco), Dicky Trisco, Pete Herbert, Crazy P, Bottin, Felix Dickinson, Leftside Wobble, Tristan Da Cuhna (Back To Basics), Andy Ash, The Revenge, Matt (Wolf Music), Leo Zero and Namedrop (Lowlife) amongst others.”

What's next?
A collaboration project between Mike Simonetti (Italians Do It Better) and Short Circuit under the name The Shadow Kids, which will feature remixes by Seahawks, Ruf Dug and El Diablos Social Club. “Following that we have an 'El Diablos Social Club EP' dropping by Neil and Chris, an EP by DJ Rocca with a remix by Brioski and so much more... all dropping on vinyl with hand-made (by us) record sleeves!” They're also in talks about a release by a well-known northern duo – watch this space.
