Brazilian d&b don headlines Cardiff record shop’s fest
As well as selling all styles of dance music vinyl, plus merchandise, CDs, DJ equipment and club-related clothing, Catapult Records in Cardiff has been putting on events for the last couple of years. And they’ve just announced their biggest one yet.
From 6th — 8th June, Catapult will be throwing their first weekender at the Baskerville Hall stately home, in the Wye Valley in Hertfordshire, near the Welsh border. It’s an amazing location that paid host to various foundation rave events in the early ‘90s, as well as acting as a precursor for festivals staged by organisations like the Big Chill.
Catapult have previously thrown a rave in an old bank vault in Cardiff, where they played hot to Friction, Mampi Swift and Wilkinson, and also staged events in car parks and other unusual places — but this is their most ambitious yet.
They’ve decided to stage a drum & bass weekender, Sounds Of The Baskerville, with acclaimed hyper-energetic DJ Marky from Brazil topping the bill. He’ll be ably assisted by his regular cohort Stamina MC, who he teamed up with for the top 20 hit ‘LK’ back in the day, while Rockwell, Audio, Break, Emperor, Uncle Dugs from Rinse and old hardcore legend Daniel ‘Billy’ Bunter will also be on the bill.
Three indoor arenas, laser shows, décor and top of the range sound systems will host the entertainment, and camping takes place in the grounds of the stately home. This means that revellers will have full access to the venue’s heated indoor swimming pool, showers and toilets — not what you’d usually expect at a festival.
So revellers will undoubtedly be howling with delight at the d&b weekender!
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who created the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, is thought to have based his most famous story — The Hound Of The Baskervilles — on a visit to Baskerville Hall. He reportedly combined a wild hound legend from another part of the country with his knowledge of the property and the Baskerville family who lived there in the late 19th century. Sherlock Holmes has, of course, recently been revived again in an acclaimed BBC television series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
