RULIN’ REACHES 20TH ANNIVERSARY

Pioneering house night celebrates with Frankie Knuckles

Rulin’, the pioneering house Saturday nighter that launched at Ministry Of Sound in London in 1994, is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

‘Godfather of house’ Frankie Knuckles heads up the birthday celebrations at Ministry on Saturday 29th March.

Knuckles will be joined by other DJs who played a key part in Rulin’’s success back in the day. Former Studio 54 DJ Kenny Carpenter, also a frequent Rulin’ guest, joins Knuckles in the Box on the night, as do Farley & Heller, the UK duo responsible for many a classic house track and remix such as this:

Ministry Of Sound co-founder and original resident, Justin Berkmann will also be in the Box on the night, while 103 — the Bar — has newer DJs such as Kry Wolf and Copy Paste Soul.

Rulin’ was instrumental in championing American house music back in the mid-1990s. One of Ministry’s flagship nights, it was one of the few clubs that would fly over big American DJs to ply their wares on UK soil. As such, Masters At Work, David Morales, MK, Tony Humphries, Erick Morillo, Tedd Patterson, Green Velvet (Cajmere), Roger Sanchez, Deep Dish, DJ Pierre and more were all flown over to plat at Rulin’ in the days when the vinyl that a DJ had in their record box was pretty much exclusive to them.

Other UK acts like X-Press 2 and Jazzy M also made their names from frequent appearances at Rulin’.

The Rulin’ label was also responsible for classic house tracks like Afro Medusa ‘Pasilda’, Jakatta ‘American Dream’ and huge Millennium Ibiza anthem Static Revenger ‘Happy People’...
