PLASTICIAN REMASTERS BACK CATALOGUE
Dubstep pioneer harks back to the beginning
Plastician, one of dubstep's pioneers, has revealed a forthcoming album of remastered material from the early ‘00s.
Featuring over 20 tracks, the album will consist of mainly old, vinyl-only pieces that were released under his former alias, Plasticman. Plastician, aka Chris Reed, had to change his name in 2006 to avoid confusion with Richie Hawtin's Plastikman alias.
In a recent interview, the London producer explained: “I re-opened the original .flp Fruityloops files in the same versions of the software they were built in at the time and bounced them as wavs completely flat.
“I’ve not added any new effects or EQ to any of them. They all contain exactly the same sounds and mix settings as they did in the early ’00s, even as basic as they are I felt it would be wrong to change anything.”
Plastician, as Plasticman, first released on Slimzee's label in 2002. This was on his first release:
The album, which will be released through his own Terrorythm Recordings, won’t be receiving a vinyl release, as Plastician “likes the idea of the original records holding their individual values and identities”.
Collectors never fear however, as a selection of remixes will follow, one of which will get a limited press of 12-inches.
