UR MAKE MOVEMENT DEBUT

Techno pioneers join Detroit Festival on Memorial Day Weekend

While the US has no shortage of festivals, if you're looking to cut through the unecessary window-dressing of flashy production and pyrotechnics to hone in on the best music, then Movement is the place to go.

For starters, it takes place – between May 24th and May 26th - in the heart of Detroit, birthplace of techno and home to a variety of talented producers from across house and hip-hop too. While the first two phases of line-up announcements have already included the likes of Carl Cox, Carl Craig, Dixon, Jamie Jones, Jeff Mills, Loco Dice, Metro Area (live), Richie Hawtin, Flosstradamus, Green Velvet, Jamie xx and Jimmy Edgar (read more here), the third phase, announced yesterday, adds more essential acts.

There are plenty of the biggest stars of today, such as Seth Troxler. Heidi and Lee Foss, but most exciting for fans of Detroit techno is the appearance of Underground Resistance, playing a live Timeline show tracing their history. Last year DJ Mag had the privilege of visiting UR's record shop and distribution centre, Submerge, which also houses an Underground Resistance museum upstairs, filled with artefacts from the music that inspired them to the lathe that they cut most of their records on.

“We’re ecstatic to have Underground Resistance performing at the festival,” says Jason Huvaere, Movement festival director. “This will be a rare opportunity for fans to experience a profound group of Detroit artists that have been instrumental in revolutionizing dance music culture since the late 1980s.” In other words, it's unmissable.
