The Ibiza season is now looming near on the horizon. We covered some of the key 2014 announcements last week but are feeling nostalgic today, so thought we would put a little list of classic Ibiza tracks for you.
So sit back, turn up and hark back to a time when Ibiza was defined by the four-four and pianos ruled the dancefloor.
OCTAVE ONE FEAT. ANN SAUNDERSON ’BLACK WATER (430 WEST)
A track that is just perfect for Ibiza. Rolling, hypnotic beats combine with euphoric, yet subdued keys and ‘that’ vocal to create a masterpiece that sounds as good at Mambo for sunset as it does on a packed Space dancefloor at 2am. Magic.
SPILLER ’GROOVEJET (ORIGINAL MIX) (DREAM BEAT)
Like many house tracks from this era, ‘Groove Jet’ was sidled with a vocal and re-targeted to a commercial audience after being a club success, but this Sophie Ellis Bexter-free original version soundtracked dance floors across Ibiza with its inimitable percussive intro and uplifting filtered French house vibe.
LAYO & BUSHWACKA! ‘LOVE STORY [VS FINALLY]’ (XL RECORDINGS)
Adding vocals to popular records isn’t always a bad thing tho, particularly when it is born from nightclub experimentation rather than commercial targeting. When Layo & Bushwacka! first added the accapella from Kings of Tomorrow’s ‘Finally’ to their already-epic ‘Love Story’ they knew they were onto winner.
JOSH ONE ‘CONTEMPLATION (KING BRITT FUNKE MIX)’
Over 10 minutes of simple, refined house music genius from Josh One (courtesy of the King Britt remix). It doesn’t do a lot, but its potency on the dance floors of Ibiza was and is legendary.
JON CUTLER FEAT. E-MAN ‘IT’S YOURS’ (CHEZ)
Classic house in its purest form, this jazzy emotive gem from Jon Cutler still sounds as good today as it did blasting out of the speakers at Pacha at the turn of the millennium.
