HIGH FIVE: MAY

The five top nights in the UK this month...

1. M*A*D*E, THE ARENA, RAINBOW VENUES, BIRMINGHAM

SATURDAY 3RD/SUNDAY 4TH MAY

CHASE & STATUS (DJ SET), SUB FOCUS (DJ SET), NETSKY (DJ SET), ANNIE MAC, MK, REDLIGHT/BONDAX, STEVE LAWLER, THE MARTINEZ BROTHERS, CAMO & KROOKED, HOT SINCE 82, FEED ME (DJ SET), JAGUAR SKILLS, MATTHIAS TANZMANN, BREAKAGE, LETS BE FRIENDS, TOM SHORTERZ & MORE...

It's all go at the Rainbow Venues in Birmingham. April already witnessed this sprawling set of rave rooms bolted onto an old man's boozer in the heart of Digbeth celebrate 10 years, with some massive parties during Easter weekend.

Not a club known for sitting on its arse, this month it'll celebrate May Bank Holiday with a weekend event set within the same outdoor arena — that enormous courtyard beside viaducts — used for Circoloco In the Arena, this time hosted by M*A*D*E, a joint venture between Global Gathering and The Rainbow.

During the day on Saturday and Sunday, a festival-sized line-up is billed for the main stage, hosted by UKF, with the likes of Chase & Status, Sub Focus, Annie Mac, MK and Redlight, while house and garage grooves fill the Air Car Park stage, where Seedy Sonics and Tom Shorterz host the soundsystem respectively on each day.

On Saturday night, The Textiles Factory will be hosted by Spectrum, where more abrasive sounds from the likes of Feed Me and Jaguar Skills will get Brummie's club kids raving, while Sunday is all about house, when Steve Lawler's ViVA Warriors come to town with Mathias Tanzmann to take over The Street and FACE host Hot Since 82 and Bareskin at The Warehouse. Meanwhile, Mak & Pasteman join Tom Shorterz and Cause & Affect in The Garden.

Combined night and day tickets are available for either day, as well as separately and, on Friday, Digbeth Dining Club will host The British Street Food Awards in The Arena if you fancy some decent scran while you dance.

2. SHINDIG, SPILLERS WHARF, NEWCASTLE QUAYSIDE

SUNDAY 4TH MAY

SVEN VÄTH, LOCO DICE, JAMIE JONES, MK, HOT SINCE 82, NINA KRAVIZ, THE MARTINEZ BROTHERS, ROBERT DIETZ (LIVE), CATZ 'N DOGZ, GUTI, WAFF, SANTE, SIDNEY CHARLES, CHRISTOPH

Without doubt the biggest underground dance line-up to ever hit “The Toon”, Shindig celebrates its 22nd birthday this month. Taking over Spillers Wharf, a stretch of land on the quayside of the Tyne, this 14-hour day and night outdoor event is more like a dance festival than the club nights Shindig are most used to throwing.

Stepping out of W34 for the day, the warehouse venue used to put on acts like Maya Jane Coles and Steve Lawler in recent years, the location has been selected for its size, collating the biggest names in house and techno all on one bill. Cocoon boss Sven Väth, Loco Dice, Jamie Jones, MK, Hot Since 82, Nina Kraviz, The Martinez Brothers, Robert Dietz (live), Catz 'N Dogz and wAFF are just some of the names involved, while two venues in the city — W34 and theCUT — will put on selected acts By Night to cater for those with stamina.

FRIDAY 2ND – SATURDAY 3RD MAY

ACTRESS, ANDY BLAKE, FLOATING POINTS, DOC DANEEKA, KELELA (LIVE), LEON VYNEHALL, MARCELLUS PITTMAN & MORE

Taking place over the space of two days across multiple venues and locations during Bank Holiday weekend — The Laundry, London Fields Brewery, Oslo, Hackney Picturehouse — some of the edgiest names in house, techno and bass are down to play between Friday and Saturday.

Actress, Andy Blake, Floating Points are due to launch the festival with a warehouse-style party on Friday, before a cluster-fuck of artists scatter across East London on Sunday. Doc Daneeka, Marcellus Pittman, Ryan Hemsworth, Leon Vynehall, Kelela (live) and Mike Skinner are some of the lesser-spotted treats doing the rounds in the hipster joints of Hackney for Elsewhere 001 this month

4. CELEBRATING 35 YEARS OF THE WAREHOUSE LEEDS

SUNDAY 4TH MAY

MAYA JANE COLES, KIM ANN FOXMAN, LAURA JONES, BLOODY MARY

Thirty five-years-old and only getting cooler, Warehouse Leeds celebrates its coral anniversary this month with a wicked line-up of female talent. Yep, it's ladies night at the UK's eldest club, going to show that an old mans' gentleman's club this clearly is not. Maya Jane Coles, Kim Ann Foxman, Laura Jones and Bloody Mary have not only been picked to pack the place out, but commemorate 35 years since this venue first opened its doors. From laying on Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Stone Roses to the dance music juggernaut that it is today, a lot has changed since The Warehouse launched in 1979 — and it's all the better for it.

5. EGG LONDON 11TH BIRTHDAY, EGG LDN, LONDON

SATURDAY 3RD MAY

SOLOMUN, DJ PHONO, CRISTIAN VARELA

From coveted underground treasure to one of the most bookable names in deep house worldwide, Solomun's rise to fame has been a remarkable one to say the least. A favourite in The White Isle thanks to residencies at Sankeys Ibiza and Pacha, his Diynamic imprint in Hamburg has launched the careers of some of the scene's hottest talent — Amine Edge & DANCE, H.O.S.H and Adriatique — in recent years, but it's the bossman who still carries the most weight, and he's joined by label new(ish)comer DJ Phono to celebrate Egg LDN's 11th birthday this Bank Holiday weekend.
