GIEGLING CO-FOUNDER KONSTANTIN: "WOMEN ARE USUALLY WORSE AT DJING THAN MEN"

Konstantin — a techno DJ, producer and co-founder of respected record label Giegling — has said he believes women are "disproportionately promoted" in the dance music industry in a recent interview with German music magazine, Groove.

Written in German and translated by all-female collective Discwoman, the well-known selector made several disturbing and sexist remarks throughout the interview, also stating that: "He finds it unfair that women are so heavily promoted, although they are in his opinion usually worse at DJing than men are."

Konstantin also added that if women want to gain respect and notoriety in a male-dominated industry, they should consider a different tact: "Thus women who seek careers in male-dominated industries like the DJ business must lose their ‘female qualities’ and become 'manly'."

Several female DJs have weighed in on Twitter following Konstantin's explosive comments, with The Black Madonna and DJ Shiva both airing their views on the subject via the social media platform.

The Black Madonna also recalled a recent encounter with Konstantin, tweeting: "So, I'll read the article but last week Konsti said and I quote 'You're a feminist? You might not want to be around me. I'm a chauvinist.'"
