Club Azuli lands on Space

London label gears up for summer season in new venue

After two successful seasons at El Divino, Azuli Records are raising their game and taking on the 5000-capacity Space, home of We Love... and Carl Cox King of Clubs.

Starting from Friday 6th July, the prolific UK label will offer the iconic Playa D'En Bossa venue their own chic electronic soundtrack. Danish sensation John Dahlbäck and Soma legends Slam will headline their opening party. "We needed somewhere bigger so Space is a natural progression for us," said Azuli's Dave Piccioni, who has been working with the venue on the 'Azuli presents... Space Ibiza' compilations since 2003.

"A lot of labels and promoters have gone to Ibiza thinking they can large it from the word go," explained Piccioni. "But over many years I've seen how it works. We couldn't have gone straight into a venue as big as Space. You've got to do things gradually and watch them grow." Indeed, it seems odd that Azuli have only enjoyed two full seasons here - so synonymous is their sound with the White Isle. As you would expect, this season's line-ups are an astute balance of legendary house alumni like X-Press 2 and François K, with electronic London label gears up for summer season in new venue futurism from Audiofly and Thomas Schumacher, the fidget house filth of Switch, as well as pumping electro-grooved sounds from Kurd Maverick and chart botherer Fedde Le Grande.

"We're not an over the top druggy sound," continued the Azuli boss on their well straddled blend of accessible and underground sounds. "I'm not criticising anybody, but I think when music becomes too abstract you rely too much on people being in a certain state to appreciate it. We're more accessible to all but still get that glam trashy European element who know how to party."

Continuing their belated Ibiza takeover, the label have also announced the launch of Bar Azuli this summer. Located near the Dome Bar on Calle De Es Passadis, the vibrant pre-club night spot will host exclusive sets from many of the season's main guests. Discounted tickets will also be available from the bar - a snip at less than the already affordable €20.

"We've kept Bar Azuli under wraps as our big secret," revealed Piccioni. "We just aim to get a good vibe going on and really build on our presence on the island over the summer."
