HIGH FIVE: NOVEMBER

The best parties around this November

1 COCOON
COCOON, BUILDING SIX, LONDON
SATURDAY 22ND NOVEMBER
SVEN VÄTH, STEVE BUG, POPOF, CHRISTIAN BURKHARDT (LIVE)

After another hugely successful summer in Ibiza, Sven Väth's barmy techno army is lining up for its biggest party in London since March this month. Studio 338 might have showcased the Cocoon brand with a terrace party in the absence of Papa Sven back in July, but now the Ibiza season is over he'll be leading the charge when his Frankfurt institution returns to Building Six this month.

We're fully aware it falls on the same date as the second leg of DJ Mag Sessions presents Egg LDN Weekender with DJ W!LD, Session Victim and Glimpse, but we don't care. The line-up is too big to ignore and, let's be honest, this massive techno-loving town is big enough for the both of us.

Joining the Cocoon number one, Poker Flat's main man Steve Bug will lug just a fraction of his vintage vinyl collection to the 02 Arena to spin in the big room formerly known as Matter. French electro/house-raver-turned-techno-head Popof is also on board to send the place bananas, while label regular/resident Christian Burkhardt will play a live set.

Room two will be hosted by Rhythmatic, still buzzing from their recent warehouse party with Margaret Dygas last month. James Manero, Daylomar, Carlos Ryan, Chaz Beazli and Chrissy Hope will keep things jumping until the very early hours alongside the Rhythmatic residents.

With underground superclubbing in London still ruled by the likes of Ministry Of Sound and Fabric, it's good to see London Warehouse Events keeping the ashes of Matter alive and providing some very welcome competition in the UK capital.

2 THE HYDRA
THE HYDRA PRESENTS ELECTRIC MINDS, STUDIO SPACES, LONDON
SATURDAY 8TH NOVEMBER
MOODYMANN, MICHAEL MAYER, ROBAG WRUHME, REBOLLEDO, JOEY ANDERSON, LEON VYNEHALL, SEI A, DOLAN BERGIN

As The Hydra series strides into its third month, it's once again not easy singling out just one choice event. Weighing it up, however, the High Five accolade this month has to go to the series' co-producer Dolan Bergin and his Electric Minds party.

Pairing up Detroit's oddball house master Moodymann with Kompakt boss Michael Mayer, it's a night programmed to provide diversity, ranging from Motor City funk to the eccentric kraut-disco staple of the Cologne label. Pampa's revered DJ Robag Wruhme will also bring authentic deep house/techno to The Hydra's warehouse home in E1, with Comeme's Latino techno talent Rebolledo, New York deep houser Joey Anderson and UK outside prodigy Leon Vynehall also in the mix. It's simply doesn't get better than that!

3 TROUBLE VISION PRESENTS HIVERN DISCS, OVAL SPACE, LONDON
SATURDAY 8TH NOVEMBER
TALABOMAN (JOHN TALABOT + AXEL BOMAN), BICEP, PIONAL, C.P.I.

You know Trouble Vision has something special sorted when they step out of their prized dance dungeon Corsica Studios and into the spacious white-wash surrounds of Oval Space.

Preparing a rare UK audience for Axel Boman and John Talabot's partnership known as Talaboman, the presence of them on a bill alongside Bicep, close Talabot associate and a very special guest is nothing short of a booking coup in the capital. If house and techno of the highest class is what you're after, this party is the one for you.

4 MAGNA CARTA, STUDIO 338, LONDON
SATURDAY 8TH NOVEMBER
PHIL WEEKS, LIVIO & ROBY, WAFF, TIM GREEN, JORDAN PEAK, EAST END DUBS B2B CHRIS LATTNER, JACK WICKHAM & MORE

It has only taken about three years for Joe Jackson's Magna Carta to carve out its position as one of London's most popular house events, helped in no small part by the sound's explosion in and around the capital in recent times.

The night's notoriety is such that it can book a long-list of solid, bullshit-free DJs — the likes of Phil Weeks, Livio & Roby, Jordan Peak, wAFF & co — to pack out a 1600-capacity venue with an outdoor terrace without the need for a marquEe headliner. Magna Carta will prove once again that a loyal following and strong booking policy are not mutually exclusive.

5 MR SCRUFF PRESENTS KEEP IT UNREAL, THE FAVERSHAM, LEEDS
SATURDAY 8TH NOVEMBER
MR SCRUFF

Five albums down the line and a discography stretching back to '95, there's no doubting Mr Scruff's aptitude as a producer. However, it's as a DJ that he really comes alive. A stickler for good sound (he insists on taking his custom-built vintage mixer everywhere) who doesn't play by the rules, his DJ sets have as much personality as the cartoon characters he puts to paper. From vintage disco, boogie and funk through to acid house and hip-hop, Mr Scruff is keeping it unreal in Leeds this month with a five-hour set, where he can go wherever he wants.
