BEST OF BRITISH 2014 AWARDS PARTY @ FABRIC

Golden boy Jackmaster steals show

Working with a hangover the day after Best of British Awards Party is always difficult, so rising with the knowledge that Fabric, our venue last night, is tonight facing a review of its license tonight following a string of reported drug-related deaths over the past three years adds a dampener to what was a hugely successful one-off Wednesday night at the club.

While Islington Council's review is still undecided (sign the petition here), we look back to a night in which the vast majority of the dance music industry got together and partied hard in Room One and Three and gongs were presented to Huxley (Best Producer), Josh Butler (Breakthrough Producer), Darius Syrossian (Best Resident), Sasha (Best Label, Last Night On Earth), Erol Alkan (Best Compilation, 'Fabric 77'), Lone (Best Album, 'Reality Testing'), among others (full results here).

There was a special appearance from Hackney-born Hollywood hero Idris Elba, who presented the poll's most prestigious award for Best DJ. However it was the winner of the award that was the star of the night, arriving with his crew in a golden horse drawn carriage.

“Somebody told me Hypercolour arrived in a stretched limo last year, I was like, as nice as those guys are, I could beat that,” said Jackmaster on the night. “I started phoning around all the horse drawn carriages in Essex, Surrey, London and eventually this guy Nick got back to me and he was like 'yeah we can get you one no bother,' and I asked for a pink one like Jordan got married in for one of her 18 weddings. He said, 'We've got that, but we've also got a gold one that Lady Gaga used for her perfume launch and I was like 'these people know how to upsell' – DEAL – and as soon as we dealed on it I started telling all my friends and I instantly regretted it. But as soon as I got in it and there were lights in the carriage and it was all regal, I was like this is sound.”

Fabric was heaving until 3am, with sets from Josh Butler, Ralph Lawson, Patrick Topping, Darius Syrossian, Jackmaster, Dense & Pika and Mak & Pasteman that rocked Room One's immense soundsystem, while Mark E, Mat Playford and Brassica (live) bossed room three. All in all, it was a wicked night. Proving exactly why the Uks 'Best Large Club' needs to be saved!
