ALEX OMES, ULTRA CO-FOUNDER PRONOUNCED DEAD

Miami nightlife icon sadly passed away

The Miami New Times reported yesterday that Alex Omes, the co-founder of Ultra Music Festival has sadly passed away, aged 43 years old. The cause of death is currently unknown.

The Miami-based promoter and nightlife icon was one of dance music’s most influential figures and was at the forefront of the genre’s resurgence in the United States.

Omes founded Ultra Music Festival in 1999 and built it to become of the world’s most iconic festival brands. After parting company with Ultra in 2010, Alex continued to influence the scene with a series of massive events in Miami, featuring among others, Swedish House Mafia.

In a statement to the Miami New Times, Ultra said; “The organizers of Ultra Music Festival extend their deepest condolences to the family of Alex Omes and are saddened by the news of his passing. We will continue to remember and celebrate Alex for his love, passion, and contributions to the Electronic Dance Music community.”

Alex had worked with DJ Mag many times over the years and was liked and respected by all the team here. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. RIP.
