HATCHA: OLD SKOOL GARAGE MIX

Download Dubstep don's Garage mix

Before dubstep in the UK, there was garage – a sound that's come back around in the last couple of years. Our pal Hatcha, dubstep don, has just given us an old skool garage mix of his to share with you lovely people – and pretty fresh it sounds too.

The mix includes garage and 2-step versions of 'Sincere' by MJ Cole, Barbara Tucker's 'Beautiful People', 'Word Is Love' by Voices Of Life and the Ramsey & Fen mix of 'Bela Horizonti' by The Heartists — and lots more choice goodies.

Hatcha was a garage head before he started working in Big Apple Records in Croydon. Here he started playing the weirder B-sides of garage and 2-step records in his DJ sets — the dubs — and was also receiving tracks from young visitors to the shop at the time such as Skream, Benga, Distance, Mala and Coki. Of course, out of this record shop and south London scene grew dubstep, which eventually exploded into a worldwide phenomenon.

A future DJ Mag Game Changer article will be drilling down on Hatcha's part in the origins of dubstep. But meanwhile, enjoy his super-fly old skool garage mix.
