LOUIE VEGA SETS ROBERT CLIVILLES'S NEW TRACK FREE

ROBERT CLIVILLES'S COMEBACK GETS THE LOUIE VEGA TOUCH

Between them and their various solo and collective projects, few people did more to break house music through to the mainstream in the '90s than Robert Clivilles and Masters at Work. Clivilles, in particular, through his work with David Cole as C+C Music Factory moved units from the sweaty dance floor to the gold-plated charts. The producer, who started out with David Morales and Cole in 2 Puerto Ricans, A Blackman and a Dominican, went on to produce major hits for everyone from Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson. Sadly, by the mid-90s, David Cole, the duo’s keyboardist, had passed away and Clivilles, the arranger, had retreated from the industry.

Today, DJ Mag is premiering a new track, appropriately titled ’Set Me Free’ remixed by Masters at Work's Louie Vega. The original  bears all the golden touches that made ‘Gonna Make You Sweat’, ‘Things That Make You Go Hmmm’ and ‘Pride (A Deeper Love)’ dance music staples: churchy organs, an uplifting vocal, and a classic arrangement - intro, crescendo, breakdown, bridge, finish. The Louie Vega remix strips it all down to a warm syncopated groove that flips the original’s neon beats into something more incandescent but no less celebratory. If you need "love in your life and peace in your soul," this is a good place to start.
