ADRIAN SHERWOOD REVEALS INSPIRATION BEHIND HIS FIRST USE OF SAMPLING

In baseball, left field is a dead zone. In music, it’s fertile ground. Adrian Sherwood has been working left-field post-punk, industrial, and dub restlessly for a few decades now. His credits and friends run the gamut from veterans like Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry to fellow ground shakers like Pinch, and everyone in between.

On April 6, the founder of On-U Sound records releases 'Sherwood At The Controls Vol. 1 1979-1984', a 2-LP compilation of the sound wave renegade’s unheard and unreleased early works featuring the Slits, Shriekback, the Fall, African Head Charge, and several others. Among the rarities selected is ‘Nuclear Weapon’ by the legendary Prince Far I, one of Sherwood’s heroes and mentors.

"I made 'Nuclear Weapon' not long after my friend Prince Far I had been murdered. I was very upset about what had happened and wanted to make something that was angry. I took his voice off another track that I didn't like and did something different with it - in fact it was the first time that I used sampling.”
