MARCH'S TOP CLUB NIGHTS

Spring is almost here, so march right in!

HISTORY – A JOURNEY THROUGH HOUSE, MAGNA SCIENCE AND ADVENTURE PARK, SHEFFIELD
Saturday 7th March
Todd Terry, Farley Jackmaster Funk (DJ set and live PA), Graeme Park, Flashmob, Doorly, Sonny Fodera & more

A trip to the Sheffield Science and Adventure Park might not immediately summon up images of quality house cuts and dancing till dawn, but established promoters History plan to bring just that to the Yorkshire entertainment complex on 7th March. Weird and wonderful festival locations have long been a “thing” — think Serbia’s EXIT in a medieval fort or the ill-fated Bloc Festival, which moored an abandoned navy ship — with familiar faces from the last three decades of DJing set to play at History - A Journey Through House.

Situated in the idyllic Yorkshire countryside, History boasts a whopping line-up of the genre’s most established and experienced crate diggers, including Todd Terry, Farley “Jackmaster” Funk and Sonny Fodera as well as UK heroes Doorly and Jo Mills, alongside live PAs from Julie McKnight and a rare full band performance from K Klass.

Hacienda legend, Graeme Park — the man who all but defined the club’s famed, genre-spanning music policy — is set to spin. Look out for classic jams from Factory Records, plus some Greg Wilson-esque disco cuts — Park’s crate is always full of little-heard wax.

Even the party’s promoter History is a brand steeped in tradition, throwing events across the globe in the Middle East, Asia, Marbella and Ibiza. History has always had a focus on heritage acts, offering up an induction to old skool and classic house for a new generation of music-hungry club kids.

More a mini festival than standard club night, vintage ravers keen to keep it classy will be tempted by History’s VIP package, complete with green room, private bar and exclusive DJ booth, in addition to five massive stages in the main festival area that are all — thankfully — in doors.

LEAF, TOBACCO DOCK, LONDON
Saturday 7th March
Anja Schneider, Chris Liebing, DJ Harvey, Luciano, Modeselektor (DJ Set), Pan-Pot, Rob Da Bank, Sasha, Tale of Us

Setting up camp at once-19th century-tobacco-warehouse-now-waterside-rave-cave Tobacco Dock, the London Electronic Music Festival — or LEAF for short — describes itself as a celebration of “electronic music, art, technology and digital futurism”. To us, it just seems like one hell of a party, thanks to an on-point line-up and careful event curation, courtesy of Bestival founder and Radio 1 DJ, Rob Da Bank.

Mobilee boss Anja Schneider will set up on Saturday (following a Friday night opening party with Modeselektor LIVE), plus techno poster boy Chris Liebing, both of whom will bring a slice of Berlin’s heady dance scene straight to Tobacco Dock’s frosty club floor.

Undisputed legend DJ Harvey will be reppin’ the British Isles (via Los Angeles), along with Last Night On Earth boss Sasha and Rob Da Bank himself, plus a bunch of trendy tech house sets thanks to DJ duos Pan-Pot and Tale of Us.

It’s all topped off by Swiss techno giant and the man behind forward-thinking imprint Cadenza, Luciano, wrapping up a go-hard-or-go-home closing fiesta for Rob Da Bank’s LEAF.

STUDIO 338 1ST BIRTHDAY, STUDIO 338, LONDON
Saturday 14th March
Ellen Allien, Nathan Fake, Guido Schneider, Lowtec

Ellen Allien is set to transport the sound of her ubiquitous imprint, BPitch Control back to London, headlining Studio 338 in March. The Berlin label boss will be backed up by an all-star cast of German DJ pals on the 338 terrace, excluding the techno-facing talents of Brit boy, Nathan Fake. Don’t let the prospect of a terrace in March put you off — the venue’s spacious and airtight floor boasts plentiful heating, not that you’ll need it with all the dancing in store.

Guido Schneider’s set will give a nod to his roots in EBM as well as classic cuts on Moon Harbour — look out for his hit 'Hanna' in the tracklist. Finally, Lowtec — who is best-known for wigged-out, wobbly techno thanks to Workshop Records — is the cherry on top of Studio 338’s fully stocked birthday buffet — a line-up that’s guaranteed to see us go back for seconds in 2015.

TRIBAL SESSIONS, SANKEYS, MANCHESTER
Friday 6th March
Darius Syrossian, Ida Engberg, Jozef K, Daniel Sanders, Keiran Sharples, Jacky, Adam Saville

Following their reopening at the close of 2014, Sankeys MCR is back in full, bass-soaked swing! Tribal Sessions will — once again — dominate the famed nightclub this month, captained by ‘beefa golden boy Darius Syrossian plus international guests, with room two hosted by the crew from Mute!

Resident DJ, Syrossian is naturally most at home on the Sankeys' dancefloor, a place where almost anyone or anything could pop up; Tribal Sessions is one night that refuses to be pigeon-holed.

Swedish DJ and producer Ida Engberg will bring a taste of militant Nordic techno to proceedings, with a wingman set from Last Night On Earth producer, Jozef K. Expect tunes from fellow Swede and Ida’s beau Adam Beyer, plus a slew of tracks from his Drumcode imprint, as well as past releases from Ida on British label, Crosstown Rebels.

TOOLROOM LIVE, FIRE, LONDON
Saturday 7th March
Mark Knight, Prok & Fitch, Andre Crom, Eelke Kleijn, Mendo, Ramiro Lopez, Robosonic, Dj Le Roi, Illyus & Barrientos, Juliet Fox

With over 10 years in the UK house and techno game, Toolroom’s bigwigs know how to throw a party. Having recently rebranded with the #RESET campaign, which saw the heritage imprint shake up a near-decade old formula in favour of fresh blood and a new-look artistic direction, Mark Knight will lead the charge at the label’s showcase night in March under Fire club’s atmospheric, vaulted ceiling.

Billed acts Ramiro Lopez and Andre Crom have their heels dug firmly in the underground, whilst Toolroom regulars Prok & Fitch and Knight boast a broader appeal — there’s something for everyone in Toolroom’s cross-pollinated camp.

German duo Robosonic (best known for their Adana Twins collab 'La Fique') are set to roll out a powerful selection rooted in turntablism, whilst Scottish newcomers Illyus & Barrientos are about thick-set G-house with an intelligent edge.
