LISTEN: FABRICLIVE 81: MONKI

Listen: Fabriclive 81: Monki

Her own BBC Radio 1 show, her own label (Zoo Music), gigs alongside dance music giants, a residency with Annie Mac, and now a FABRICLIVE mix. DJ Monki (Lucy Monkman) may be “just” in her early 20s, and petite enough that she sometimes needs a step in the DJ booth for people to see her, but her choice of beats that swing from bass to house and her mixing finesse are impossible to miss.

Case in point, the latest addition to the vaunted FABRICLIVE series. On Fabriclive 81, the South London native and pirate radio/Rinse FM vet pulls platters from a mixed crate opening with classic late ‘80s Italo house from FPI Project’s “Going Back to My Roots”, moves through Deapmash & Raito’s clatter-bass, unreleased joints by Bot & Tony Qattro, Robert Hood’s Floorplan,a couple of bumps by DJ Haus and Melé each, a Danny Daze & 214 joint, and closes with  R&S melodic acid rave staple, Golden Girls’ 1992 Kinetic. FABRICLIVE 81 drops May 18th. Until then, here’s a promo mix featuring Stephane 1993, Mickey Pierce, and Paul Woolford to wet your whistle. Tracklist here.
