Music Against Animal Cruelty launches in aid of wildlife conservation

Adam Beyer, Ida Engberg, Nicole Moudaber, Tiga and more are confirmed ambassadors...

Music Against Animal Cruelty, a non-profit initiative working in aid of global wildlife conservation, has been launched by Canadian DJ/producer Art Department AKA Jonny White and Pulse Global CEO, Wade Cawood.

The organisation, which aims to raise revenue through music events, will actively fund global conservational operations. White and Caewood will, for example, be working closely alongside  Jack Baucher from the Tears for Tigers Foundation. The organisation was initially launched last July in Nairobi, Kenya with a fundraising event featuring local musicians Foozak, SURAJ and Dylan-S. That event was in aid of Lion Guardians, a charity dedicated to enabling the safe coexistence of lions and people in Kenya and Tanzania.

M.A.A.C. aims to raise awareness and action among musicians and fans alike across the globe in tackling poaching, environmental extinction and other factors that are devastating wildlife populations the world over. Focussing on working with grassroots initiatives, M.A.A.C. will be collaborating with and raising funding for community lead operations where they are needed.

Early support for the initiative has come from revered names in the electronic music community such as Adam Beyer, Ida Engberg Audiofly, Chris Liebing, Dubfire, Jamie Jones, Nicole Moudaber and Tiga. American actor, singer and former Prince collaborator Apollonia has vocalised support.

The launching of M.A.A.C. comes just weeks after news broke that the last living white rhino in the world had died aged 45, marking the imminent extinction of the long-endangered species. In the past 40 years, the world’s rhino population dropped by 90% while the world’s tiger population has dropped by 97%. 30,000 elephants are slaughtered every year for their ivory. The illegal global poaching and hunting of wildlife is estimated to be worth over $15 Billion a year.

Various DJs and members of the electronic music community have been becoming involved in charity, conservation and environmental initiatives in recent times. A few weeks ago, Audiofly announced their collaboration with watch specialists Titan Black with whom they designed a wrist piece in aid of marine conservation charity, Pelagic Life
