JUNE'S TOP CLUB NIGHTS

These are our top 5 club nights in June...

1
FIELD DAY, VICTORIA PARK, LONDON
Saturday 6th June
Caribou, Daniel Avery b2b Andrew Weatherall, Clark (live), Floating Points, Ghost Culture, Hudson Mohawke (live), John Talabot, Kindness, Leon Vynehall, Marcel Dettmann b2b Ben Klock, Nina Kraviz, Mumdance, Shanti Celeste, Ten Walls, Todd Terje & Olsens, Bok Bok, Clarence Clarity & more

It wasn’t too long ago that Field Day was a bit of a shambles. With a confusing lay-out and poor sound levels, it largely played second fiddle to Victoria Park’s beefier weekender Lovebox in its first few years. During its eight-year lifetime, however, Field Day has risen to supremacy, growing to two days to begin to satisfy the lofty ambitions laid out for itself early on. A boutique festival aimed at London’s most erudite music fans, the line-ups — an on-trend mismatch of live acts and DJs — have got increasingly more electronic, with danceland’s coolest and most wanted usually topping the bill. This year, Caribou headlines the main stage, but it’s the DJ talent on show during the day, across stages hosted by the likes of Bugged Out! and Red Bull Music Academy, that will get most dedicated dance heads out the house for house (and techno) early doors.

With marquee underground bookings like Daniel Avery b2b Andrew Weatherall, Marcel Dettmann b2b Ben Klock and Nina Kraviz lined up for the, um, many marquees, Field Day is just as much for the hardened clubber as it is hipsters who still like bands.

2
CELTRONIC FESTIVAL, THE NERVE CENTRE, DERRY, NORTHERN ISLAND
Wednesday 24th – Sunday 28th June
Derrick May, Mano Le Tough, The Drifter, Clark, Recondite, Henrik
Schwarz, Francesco Tristano, Move D, Objekt, Ripperton & Fort Romeau

Derry isn’t the first place that springs to mind when someone mentions techno, but there’s no doubting the Northern Irish know their shit. Thanks in no small part to this bastion for top techno talent. Celebrating its 15th year in 2015, Celtronic is considered Ireland’s answer to Sonar, and a quick look at the line-up (and the fact it takes place at an exhibition centre) will tell you why. Centred on innovation within house and techno, Detroit’s Derrick May tops the bill, while the likes of Mano Le Tough, Clark, Henrik Schwarz and Fort Romeau spread across a schedule that lasts five days. It’s simply class.

20 YEARS OF SANKEYS, STUDIO 338, LONDON
Saturday 27th June
Danny Tenaglia (extended set), X-Press 2, East End Dubs, Argy,
Matt Jam Lamont & more

Taking advantage of southeast London’s outdoor terrace Studio 338 this June, Manchester institution Sankeys has invited Danny Tenaglia to commemorate 25 years of the club with an all-day-and-night party. The term legend is one banded about too easily in dance music these days, but it’s certainly true of this NYC house hero.

From tribal to garage to tech house, expect his extended set to be the work of a true master. UK veterans X-Press 2 are also onboard to deliver a touch of experience to proceedings alongside UK garage flag-bearer Matt Jam Lamont, while new resident Argy and East End Dubs bring things more up-to-date.

OFFICIAL DJ MAG BMC PARTY, PATTERNS, BRIGHTON
FRIDAY 5TH JUNE
Dave Clarke, Tom Demac, Rebekah, Ralf Kollman, Dave Beer & more

We’ve teamed up with Brighton Music Conference (BMC) to throw an official after-party for an event that will see the dance industry flock to the seaside for a day of panel talks, workshops and networking on Friday 5th June.

And who better to take the helm than the “baron of techno” Dave Clarke? Former Brighton resident and consultant for both BMC and ADE, he’s an industry stalwart and one of the UK’s most revered DJs. Joined by Hypercolour’s Tom Demac, CLR’s Rebekah, Mobilee’s Ralf Kollman and Back to Basics' Dave Beer — among others — at Brighton’s newly revamped Patterns (formerly Audio), there’ll be burgers and beers on the outside terrace from 5pm until things get dirty inside after dark.

OPTIMO – UNTIL THE MUSIC STOPS, VILLAGE UNDERGROUND, LONDON
Saturday 6th June
JD Twitch, JG Wilkes

The Glaswegian duo behind Sub Club’s 13-year-long Sunday night party (ceased in 2010), Optimo are teaming up with Black Atlantic for another Until the Music Stops series at Village Underground, which also brought Slow To Speak and Mister Saturday Night to the venue last autumn.

Renowned for mixing up everything from voguish B-movie soundtracks (from Goblin/John Carpenter) to disco to slamming techno, the pair’s extensive music collection will get an outing all night long underneath East London’s railway arches this June. Word on the street is that it’s the start of a residency — so watch this space.
