Premiere: Monki ‘Voices’

BBC Radio 1 DJ and ZOO Music label boss Monki releases her debut EP on her new &Friends imprint – ‘Voices’ is a club-ready buzz saw that will find a home at many a festival this summer...

Lucy Monkman AKA Monki has risen through the UK’s radio ranks steadily over the past couple of years, having cut her teeth as a DJ on influential underground stations like Rinse FM and Jackie Radio. She has since gone on to host an unmissable weekly show on Sunday nights BBC Radio 1. Not only that, she has DJ’d in some of the UK’s finest clubs and more further afield as well as speaking on panels such as one on how to stay sane in the music industry at IMS Ibiza last year.

Having released music by other artists on her Zoo Music label over the past half decade, Monki this year launched her new &Friends imprint with an EP from Chambray. Now, her own debut EP marks another step forward for the label. ‘Voices’ – premiering below – is the title track of the EP and it is a straight-up club ready buzz saw with all the heft of a festival floor filler.

The track is defined by its classic acapella of The Police’s ‘Voices Inside My Head’ which hover on top of a steady beat and arpeggiated bass groove.

The EP drops on the 4th May. In the meantime, listen to the track and check out Monki’s show on BBC 1.
