Premiere: Brian Ring ‘Crumbling Chasm’

Berlin-based Irishman serves up a lo-fi percussive workout with a hypnotic edge on SHMLSS’ XXX imprint...

Brian Ring makes that kind of nourishing house music you could listen to all day.

With releases notched up over the years on labels like Running Back and Freerange Recordings, the Berlin-based Irishman’s brand of percussive, clattering house wields its tasteful flourishes of Italo and Balearic flavours remarkably, crafting a sound that is as triumphant and comfortable on the dancefloor as it is in your kitchen while you make a bolognese or whatever.

The producer now steps on Dutch imprint XXX, run by DJ/production duo SHMLSS. The fifth release on the label, Ring’s EP comes with three original cuts as well as a remix by Honey Soundssystem’a Jason Kendig.

On ‘Crumbling Chasm’ – premiering below – Ring tones down the Italo synths that fill the rest of the EP in exchange for a percussive lo-fi atmosphere with a deep, hypnotic edge. A surefire dancefloor mood setter. It’s excellent.

‘XXX005’ is out on 28th May. You can pre-order it here.

Meanwhile, SHMLSS will be playing Mick’s Garage in Hackney Wick, London this Saturday 19th May for Cadillac Soundsystem’s fourth birthday party. Listen to their vinyl only mix for DJ Mag here
