Premiere: Charlotte de Witte ‘Silence’

Belgium’s unstoppable techno star steps up with a new EP on hallowed UK label NovaMute. ‘Silence’ is a cavernous, haunting trip into deep rhythm...

Charlotte de Witte has become somewhat of an unstoppable force in the techno-sphere in the past couple of years. The Belgian DJ/producer – who was DJ Mag’s UK cover star in September 2017 – has persistently gone from strength to strength thanks to her all-enveloping main room techno sets and penchant for deep, hypnotic production.

Now, ahead of a busy festival season that will find her hosting her own KNTXT techno concept stage at Tomorrowland, she is set to release a new EP on hallowed UK techno label NovaMute. Channelling the melancholy she has described as being crucial in her approach production, the EP is heady and club-ready (the energy in ‘The Healer’ and ‘Kuda’ is immense) while still retaining a sort of buried emotional heft that reveals itself only when you allow yourself to succumb to it.

This is most apparent on the EP’s closer ‘Song of the Wood Nymphs’, a cascading ambient track that find de Witte in the most unguarded, tempered form to date, and the result is superb.

In ‘Silence’ – premiering below - de Witte is back in heavy territory with a cavernous, haunting trip into deep rhythm that feels like the sonic equivalent to being hurtled into the abyss. Effective, hypnotic stuff.

‘The Healer’ EP is out on 22nd June. Pre-order it here.
