The jewel in the crown of Movement Torino’s Kappa Futur Festival is its evocative industrial location, the Parco Dora. The former home of a steel and sheet metal workshop — which was abandoned in the 1980s — it now makes for an incredible and sprawling techno playground. This weekend’s offering (Friday 6th July to Sunday 8th July) is the biggest Kappa Futur to date, with over 5000 Brits alone making the pilgrimage to Turin for two days of house and techno from some of the best in the business. As well as the leviathan-looking mainstage, there are also three satellite stages: Burn, Futur and Dora which are nestled amongst tree-lined grassy areas around ex-steel mill.

Kicking off at 12pm sharp for 12 hours each day, the first day is very much a techno affair with Joseph Capriati closing out the first day, a job he did with aplomb, finishing with Oxia’s decade-old classic ‘Domino’. Other highlights from the first day, include Eric Prydz, who leans heavily on his techno moniker Cirez D for ammunition. He does offer some light relief by dropping his recently released ‘Elements’ track, spliced with Everything But The Girl’s’ ‘Missing’ for a proper hands-in-the-air moment.

Elsewhere, Kolsch’s early evening slot sees the Dane explore a deeper timbre with Audiojack’s winding remix of Sian Vs Houle’s ‘X-Rays’ sending the 20,000 strong crowd into a marching trance. He does balance these moments out with a few of his own choice cuts, including his remix of Butch’s ‘Countach’ which delivers some much-needed feels.

The second day is a more eclectic affair with the king of big beat, Fatboy Slim, providing some more light-hearted moments during his 6pm slot. His set is a more techno-facing affair than you might expect, but he still manages to cram in samples of Childish Gambino’s ‘This Is America’ and his own classic track, ‘Right Here Right Now’.

It’s actually the satellite stages where the real action is taking place on day two, as Adam Beyer combines leathery techno cuts with classics like Robert Miles’ ‘Children’ for his high energy evening set. At the Dora stage, Peggy Gou proves a massive draw once again, as the South Korean effortlessly flicks between sparkly house and dubby acid — her own cut ’It Makes You Forget’ the perfect soundtrack for a setting sun. Closing out the festival at the Burn stage is Scottish DJ Jackmaster who delivers the most engrossing set of the entire weekend, with KiNK’s ‘Beats’ standing out as just one of many highlights from the Glaswegian’s killer selection.

Kappa Futur Festival proves once again it's one of the best metropolitan festivals in the world and it absolutely needs to be on your techno bucket list. Techno heads, this one’s for you!
