Drum & bass heavyweights Chase & Status have launched their new project, ‘RTRN II Jungle’, sharing two brand new tracks this week inspired by the pivotal jungle movement of ‘90s UK.

Marking 15 years since the group started making music together, Chase & Status’ new project is described as more of a “cultural movement” than just an album – though there is an LP on the way.

Along with the two tracks shared already, ‘Retreat feat. Cutty Ranks’ and ‘Heater feat. General Levy’, the group have shared a short documentary directed by O’Raine Thomas which charts part of the process of recording the new album in Big Yard studio in Kingston, Jamaica.

“We went there with Seani B to record tracks from our new album RTRN II JUNGLE,” says the group’s Saul Milton. “What we wanted to do was to create authentic, new, Jungle - and go to the source; where the culture and all the inspiration came from.”

The goal of the album, the group says, is to bring the classic, infinitely influential sound of jungle to new audiences and revamping it for 2018.  “We will be representing DnB at it’s most soulful, raw, and uncut level,” says WIll Kennard AKA Status.

DJ Mag has the exclusive on the brand new video for ‘Retreat feat. Cutty Ranks’, a track that champions the classic jungle form, giving it an impeccable Chase & Status treatment. The video itself is a touching, stark retrospective, bearing similarities to the style of film and music visuals that were prevalent during jungle’s initial heyday in the late ‘90s. Check it out below.

Earlier this year, DJ Mag reported on the powerful return of jungle to the forefront of the dance music world and cuaght up with some of the artists at the helm of that. Here are 10 killer new jungle tracks to sink your teeth into chosen by the DJs that play them.
