For all the technological futurism of the modern superclub you still can't beat a classic house party, and at My House they host the best in the country every single Saturday - Leeds institution Back To Basics.

Nearly as old as acid house itself, Dave Beer's Back To Basics has soundtracked the nocturnal movements of two generations of Leeds house music lovers and will this year enter the Guinness Book Of Records as the world's longest-running weekly club night.

If club lives are like dog years, Basics should have long outstayed its welcome but it remains one of the only true-blue clubbing institutions in the country- a dearly loved club where partying always came before profit. Promoter Beer is still found in the thick of his party, enjoying it every bit as much today as those discovering the joys of acid house for the very first time.

Over its 18-year journey, thousands of clubbers have lost their minds, found their future life partners and shared some of the city's most classic clubbing experiences on the Basics dancefloor. And whilst Basics itself travelled through over four separate homes before arriving here, it is the quirky trappings of My House that has captured its family feel and renegade spirit the best.

A Back To Basics venue in the truest sense, the My House main room is decked with fireplaces, couches and picture frames, whilst its bedroom area places the DJ booth in a four-poster bed. Four rooms in total open up like a fairytale on acid. Countless corridors and the city's largest outdoor smoking terrace all lend My House a genuine house party aesthetic and rugged realness that money can't buy.

So whereas some clubs opt for superfluous designer touches, My House have instead splashed their cash on a pounding Funktion One system to hammer the Basics' message home.

"We never sold out and have always stayed real," explains the punk-rock acid house veteran Beer on his club's longevity. "When the superclub rat race began we stayed well out of it - we always thought the club was super enough to start with. It didn't need baseball caps or branded tea towels to tell us that. "Back To Basics has always been just that - a straight-up family affair with fun first and musical integrity."

Never wavering from its original musical values, Basics has long been the Leeds byword for quality house and techno and with recent guests like Jesse Rose, James Lavelle, Âme, D'Julz, Layo and Sebo K there is no danger of that changing.

"We are all lifelong dance music heads that get together to make a party for our friends every week," adds eternal Basics resident Ralph Lawson. "The people know us and they know we mean it so they give us total loyalty. People come into the club, go straight on the floor and start hollering even if you're playing the deepest tune known to house.

"I owe my style to the fact I have been privileged to play this magical club for 17 years. Long live Back To Basics!"

They'd do well to rename the venue Our House, for at Beer's Basics anyone is welcome to become one of the family.
