Another Day in Paradise

Think of Manchester's clubbing history and one club looms large over all - The Haçienda. But another building associated with the late, great Tony Wilson is The Factory, home of the mythic record label and a building with a mystique all of its own. Now it's set to become the scene of a massive new clubbing coup for the Rainy City - a special series of events named Paradise that will comprise six months of cutting-edge club nights.

Running from January to June, the venue now known as the Paradise Factory - which was transformed into a club after the label's demise - is the venue for the new adventure.
Paradise has been devised by the same team behind the Warehouse Project, but unlike the series of mega events that have taken place beneath Manchester's Piccadilly Train Station, Paradise will take advantage of the Paradise Factory's intimate space - which holds only 700 - to create a genuine small-club atmosphere.
Organiser Sam Kandel is stoked about the project and early responses to the plan.
"Since we announced that it was re-opening, the feedback has been amazing," said Sam. "After the Warehouse Project, which is such an incredibly high-pressure situation, we thought it would be great to have a club that was open during that January to June six-month period after it. We're not going to make Paradise a super slick state-of-the-art international club, but rather a real Manchester club," Kandel said.

The first three events, running on consecutive nights from Thursday 24th – Saturday 26th January, promise some exciting scoops for Paradise.
On the 24th, French techno stallion and all-round eclectic champ Laurent Garnier will be making a long-awaited return to the city, and he'll be joined by housers like Haçienda head Mike Pickering, Danny Mac and Krysko. The 25th sees the venue switch up the style completely, and will feature dubstep don gorgon Skream, funk-fuelled drum & bass dude High Contrast, hip-hop crew Broke 'n' English and Rich Reason. On the 26th, it's the return of the house crew, and former Basics resident Paul Woolford is heading the charge with Greg Lord, Krysko and a special guest, still to be announced. This eclectic drive is just the tip of the iceberg of what promises to be an innovative, on-the-pulse six months of musical programming.

"Fridays are going to play host to a variety of different nights and no artist will be repeated over the first six months, so each night will be unique. The music policy on the Fridays will be quite adventurous and really varied," shared Kandel. "We're going to be working with some new talent and the best local nights in a way that we can't necessarily do at the Warehouse Project.
"Saturdays are going to move around house and techno, and once again be quite varied week to week, but all bound together by a really strong team of residents and the prime local players," he added. "There will, of course, be some visits from some of the big key names, but also from some really underground artists that aren't so well known. Hopefully we'll get that balance right."
