Newcomers to the Top 100 DJs poll, Frankfurt's Booka Shade - Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier - rocketed to fame on the back of an amazing run of 12"s, which pretty much every DJ wanted to play, whatever their usual style.
'Body Language', 'Mandarine Girl', 'In White Rooms' and 'Night Falls' were absolutely everywhere, and Booka Shade helped to define the distinctive Get Physical sound, along with co-founders of the label M.A.N.D.Y and DJ T, making it one of the hippest labels in the world.
Walter and Arno have spent 2007 riding in the wake of this success, touring and playing no fewer than 165 shows to promote their second album 'Movements', and combining DJing with an explosive live show.
The success of Booka Shade certainly took off quickly, but Walter and Arno are veterans of the German electronic scene. They started out as a synth-pop duo in the '80s and released a series of underground dance tracks on labels like R&S and Harthouse.
They also developed a sixth sense for what makes a hit record by producing and remixing a series of Euro-dance chartbusters, including Aqua's hard-to-forget No.1 single 'Barbie Girl'.
More recently, they've produced an eclectic and highly original new 'DJ Kicks' mix compilation, which knits together everything from John Carpenter to Aphex Twin; and started work on producing a new artist album, due to be released next May.
