You can be pretty sure that any year you win a Grammy is a good one, and with that in mind Benny Benassi has indeed had good year. "I couldn't believe it," he says of picking up the gong for his remix of Public Enemy's 'Bring The Noise'. "I wasn't even sure what a Grammy was until I won one." A lifelong Public Enemy fan, the 'Satisfaction' producer has been playing the seminal hip-hop outfit's records for years, but it's rock rather than hip-hop that has been his defining influence in 2008 - alongside minimal, electro, trance… "I'm a bit confused but everyone says I'm eclectic," he smiles. The award wasn't the only good thing that happened to Benny this year - he also supported Madonna at her massive Rome gig on the Sweet & Sticky Tour and played at Miami's Ultra and Detroit's Movement festivals. His Pump-Kin label signed up 'After The Rain' by Fedo Mora & Camurri, which has since gone on to even greater success on Bob Sinclair's Yellow imprint. And he's finished new album 'Rock n Rave', full of collaborations with the likes of Black Box, Dino Lenny and Iggy Pop. Benny's also found the time to embrace some new technology, using Serato "more and more", investigating Traktor and using Ableton for radio mixes.
