Techno über mensch Richie Hawtin is exhausted and frazzled - yet incredibly animated. With the passion palpable, he talks fondly of an insane 2008… "It's been so intense that the moments I've been able to enjoy and understand how much there is to enjoy are those moments when I've been in front of a crowd," he enthuses. "It's really interesting, you're finally there, and then you forget about everything, and you have the music, the people, the energy, and the intensity of the sound and it's like, 'Ah! This is why we're doing this!' It's been a beautiful experience." With a mad schedule at the best of times, 2008's been extraordinary even by this musical visionary's standards. Celebrating 10 years of his most successful and renowned record label, M-nus, Hawtin's embarked on a whirlwind of gigs around the globe with the Contakt shows, which saw the label head and the full M-nus alumni DJing and performing live. "This year has been so crazy! With the Contakt shows, the albums from Heartthrob and Gaiser… in a way we're at a peak," Richie reckons. "I'm very interested in where the M-nus aesthetic can go with the music, culture and lifestyle."
