Prepare to Flash

Simon Reynolds' dance music history Energy Flash remixed

Energy Flash, Simon Reynolds' epochal in-depth study of house, techno, hardcore and jungle has been remixed by the author and is to be re-released next month with six extra chapters through Picador/Macmillan.

The extra material in the updated Energy Flash 2008 (named after Joey Beltram's seminal techno track) will cover the multitudinous new manifestations of dance music since the book was first published in 1998, including the resurgence of trance as a populist dance phenomenon, the 2-step garage scene, electroclash, micro house, grime, breakcore and dubstep.

The original is the definitive rave document – one of the first and best books to examine dance music as a vital, cultural form – so the new version promises to be even more essential. Energy Flash 2008 will be available in late February.
