Further down the line, Hyperdub’s Cooly G, Ikonika and the bossman himself, Kode 9, host an event at Dalston’s The Nest (7th August), but those looking for proper house music might want to check 51st State Festival at Trent Country Park (8th August), with sets from Masters At Work, Dennis Ferrer, Sneak, Derrick Carter, David Morales, Tony Humphries and many more besides.

This is all in addition to Ghostly International’s Fort Romeau all night long at Corsica Studios (14th August), and Bicep’s residency at XOYO which this month features the Belfast pair plus Andrew Weatherall and Mr. Ties (22nd August). Oh yeah, and the small matter of Notting Hill Carnival, Europe’s biggest street party, which spans 29th-31st August. Lest we forget indeed.

NORTH
HIGH FIVE

Creamfields
Friday 28th - Sunday 30th August
Daresbury, Cheshire
You could spend a few days listing the bill for the north’s longest-standing dance festival, such is the scale of Cream’s masterplan. This time our picks would be The Chemical Brothers, Kolsch, Jackmaster, Skream, Joris Voorn, Cajmere, Maceo Plex, Sasha, DJ EZ and Paul Woolford, and even then we’re only scratching the surface, with a swathe of trance, hard house and EDM stars also set to play- from Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk, to Hardwell, Aviici, Laidback Luke, Dimitri From Vegas and Steve Aoki. In short, plenty of options for when you’re not talking nonsense under a tree.

11pm - 4am |£8 - £12.50

BEST OF THE REST: In a month full of festivals it can be difficult for clubs to shine through. That’s not stopping Manchester’s Gorilla, mind, with weekly parties in August featuring Yousef (8th August), Sonny Fodera (15th August), and Claude Von Stroke (29th August).

Those looking for tougher rhythms in the same city could check techno mistress Rebekah at Joshua Brooks (7th August), or an Affin label showcase at Element 19 with Joachim Spieth and Keith Carnal (28th August). Elsewhere in the region, Liverpool’s MODU:LAR have Martinez and Francesco Del Garda booked for an open air day-into-night event at recently-opened Constellations (1st August), and in Leeds Buckley headlines Wire Club for Sub:Terranea (8th August).

HIGH FIVE

Boomtown Fair
Thursday 13th August - Sunday 16th August
Matterley Bowl, Winchester, Hampshire
One of the country’s largest independent festivals has gone from strength to strength since inception in 2009, and for its sixth year has drafted in its biggest line up to date. In addition to some highly recommended live action, the dance arenas are guaranteed to go off thanks to the ridiculously up for it crowd, Squarepusher, Noisia, Surgeon, Goldie and Dillinja back-to-back, A Guy Called Gerald unleashing a jungle set, Machine Drum, Truss, Break, old school dons Ratpack, LTJ Bukem, Ulterior Motive and Dom & Roland. Known for releases on Hypercolour and Prime Numbers, Mosca tops the list of reasons to attend this all-dayer.
3pm - 3am |£5 - £12

BEST OF THE REST: August means one thing in Brighton — Pride (1st and 2nd August). The UK’s biggest LGBT celebration sees a huge parade along with a festival in Preston Park, DJs, live acts and more rainbow flags than you can hope to wave. Ever. The city’s Patterns club also has a host of worthwhile dates this month- Zed Bias (7th August); XDB, Steevio, Charles Green b2b Earl J and Alex Downey (8th August); Detroit Swindle (15th August) and Dense & Pika (21st August); whilst Concorde 2 hosts a drum ‘n’ bass mega-sesh via DJ Hazard, Dub Phizix, Strategy and SPY.

Aside from that, Luton welcomes Krystal Klear to The Edge (1st August); and Victor Simonelli headlines The Sogood Summer Party at a secret location somewhere near Marlow, Buckinghamshire, alongside Jazzy M (22nd August). Meanwhile, in deepest Sussex the logically titled Sussexfest forsakes trendy techno in favour of hardcore and old school courtesy of Ratpack, Slipmatt, Billy Bunter, and several other decade-spanners.

SCOTLAND, NORTHERN IRELAND
HIGH FIVE

Jackhammer UK Special
Saturday 8th August
The Liquid Room, Edinburgh
Ben Sims consistently does the business, hence his position at the top of a bill that also includes British rave deities Altern8 live, and further on-the-fly synth-twiddling from the one and only Radioactiveman. Taking place in the pleasant surrounds of Edinburgh which, during August, is home to a plethora of arts and cultural festivals, you can expect to find scores of visiting Americans and serious queues for taxis. Nevertheless, it gets our approval.
10.30pm – 5am |£8

Tw!tch - Livity Sound Night
Saturday 8th August
Queens Student Union
Peverelist, Kowton, and some heavy underground tunes make this one unmissable.
10pm - 3am | £10

11pm - 3am |£12 - £20

Subculture
Saturday 1st August
Sub Club, Glasgow
Subculture’s Harri & Domenic, Britain’s longest-running residents, always impress, especially when the students are away, leaving behind a loyal local crowd.
11pm - 3am | £8

BEST OF THE REST: This month Truant launches a series of parties at Edinburgh’s Cabaret Voltaire, and shouldn’t be overlooked. Dates include Boddika and local lot Lezure (20th August), and then Krysko and Greg Lord (27th August). That’s all in addition to Prosumer, who plays Summerhall in the city (7th August), and Seth Troxler whose party at a secret location the same day helps launch the city’s Fringe Festival. Down the road in Glasgow, Wax Factory have Neil Landstrumm, NOMAD, Kenny Campbell and Paul McNair to look forward to (14th August); whereas Sub Club has punted for Gerd Janson all night long (22nd August).

WEST & WALES
HIGH FIVE

Farmfestival 2015

The 10th edition of Farmfestival is set to be the best yet, and not least thanks to the exceptional talent on the bill. Adrian Sherwood and Pinch will play live, October and Appleblim share a DJ booth, with Optimo’s J.D. Twitch, Lonelady, Nightmares On Wax, giant party games, oversized decorations, a huge birthday cake and some jaw-dropping scenery also amongst the highlights.

Saturday 8th August
The Attic, Torquay
Sometime Cajmere collaborator and esteemed remixer Doorly makes his debut in Torbay.
10.30pm - 3am | £8.50

BEST OF THE REST: Bristol’s Motion Skate Park has a string of high profile dates aside from those that made our top five, including Joker, Buggsy, Ghetts and other urban players (1st August); and then Subb-an, Danny Daze and Art Department (30th August). Or, for something more rural the Earthy hippiness of Green Man Festival takes over the lush Brecon Beacons National Park (20th - 23rd August), and should never be discounted.

MIDLANDS
HIGH FIVE

Shambala
Thursday 27th - Sunday 30th August
Secret Country Estate, Northamptonshire
A stunning location and focus on green ethics give an idea of the vibe at Shambala, a four day ‘adventure in utopia’. Music-wise, in addition to folk in whim whams and meditative Hellenic trance (probably) think High Contrast, Roni Size, DJ Food, OM Unit, Illum Sphere, Fingathing, Gramatik and Solid Steel’s DK. Realistically, though, this is more about unannounced impromptu sets, the famed House Party area (complete with kitchen, bathroom and living room), art installations, and organised dance offs.
2pm - 2am | £149

Wilderness Festival
Thursday 6th August - Sunday 9th August
Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire
Brandt Bauer Frick, Hercules & Love Affair, Nils Frahm and Roisin Murphy in idyllic countryside on the border between the Midlands and the South. Yep.

BEST OF THE REST: The intimate Lestfest at Mountsorrel Fields, Leicestershire (21st - 24th August), began life as a garden and house party for friends but has grown beyond that since. Seb Wildblood, co-founder of South London label and party crew Church, stands out in a line up that’s focused on emerging talent (and not just because of his stunning debut LP from July), as do Monkeytown’s Dark Sky. And, on a similar-ish tip, Rotation are throwing a small outdoor party at Sugnall Walled Garden in Staffordshire (22nd August), curated by Mind Fair (AKA Chicken Lips’ Dean Meredith and British producer Ben Shenton).
