Chuckie hits Loco Dice and Martin Buttrich’s Desolat imprint with ‘Light It Up’ next week (Friday 14h November) as part of the ‘Desolat-X’ album. We’ve got the exclusive premiere of the track below.
As Desolat’s 50th release the album features 19 cuts, with contributions from a number of label regulars and newcomers, including Pirupa, The Timewriter, Halo Varga and Harvard Bass.
Chuckie’s ‘Light It Up’ is our pick of the bunch, and it sees the Dutch producer get freaky with a teasing tech tool primed to take the dancefloor apart.
Chuckie is a man always on the move. One of the original pioneers of the Dutch house movement, Chuckie (real name Clyde Sergio Narain) has made an indelible mark on dance music, creating one of the globe’s most recognisable party brands with his imprint-cum-club-tour, Dirty Dutch.
It’s thanks to Dirty Dutch’s success that he’s always on the road, taking a whopping 400 flights last year alone. He’s got 175 shows on the cards for this year, including his usual residencies in Las Vegas, LA and beyond.
Chuckie is a man of exacting standards and surprising sentiments. Arguably the original pioneer of the Dutch house movement, Clyde Sergio Narain has made an indelible mark on dance music, creating one of the globe’s most recognisable party brands with his imprint-cum-club-tour, Dirty Dutch.
Now in its eighth year, Holland's WiSH Outdoor festival has come on leaps and bounds since its humble 1500-capacity beginnings. Situated on the outskirts of Eindhoven, the festival currently caters for around 20 times that number and boasts an impressive eight acts from the DJ Mag Top 100 list.
Festival season is upon us, and we know how hard it can be deciding which events to spend your hard-earned cash on. So when opportunities come up to attend top-notch festivals for free, they are not to be ignored.
DJ Mag can today offer two lucky groups of mates the opportunity to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the WiSH Outdoor Festival in Holland from July 4th— 7th. It's a great event, taking place near Eindhoven, and features tons of big name DJs on the bill.
WiSH Outdoor festival in Holland has just released its full line-up — with Dutch electro-house don Chuckie topping the bill.
Other big EDM DJs on the line-up include Sander Van Doorn, Dyro, R3hab and Blasterjaxx, who all feature in DJ Mag's current Top 100 DJs poll — voted for by the international clubbing community.
Harder dance styles are represented by Headhunterz, Brennan Heart, D-Block & S-Te-Fan and B-Front, amongst others.
New York based producer Rob Resnick (Rez) and vocalist Cal aka Timeflies, are known Stateside for their hip-hop and pop hybrids and upbeat live show that makes young ladies swoon.
Dutch house titan and last month’s DJ Mag cover star Chuckie is going through something of a reinvention. The Dirty Dutch superstar, real name Clyde Sergio Narain, has recently been dabbling in ‘traphall’, aka trap x dancehall — the genre he’s now spearheading.
Speaking about the last 12 months, Chuckie reveals he’s had an amazing year. “I travelled around the world many times and played some of the biggest festivals in the world,” he says.
Having always embraced a multitude of genres, he has this year debuted his Metamorphosism world tour — a mega showcase of floor-fillers spanning between five and nine hours, and an antidote to the (allegedly sometimes) pre-recorded 45-minute festival set.
Despite having encountered many corners of the globe in 2015, Chuckie’s only lament is that he wishes he “could have had more time in the studio. It was almost impossible to combine it with my hectic tour schedule.”
In our cover story, over a cup of builder’s tea, he admitted to flying 452 times last year, and he explains how “all flight attendants and pilots are allowed to fly only a certain amount of time because of safety measures. We all know that DJs fly way more than whatever is healthy”, the chameleonic producer finishes. FELICITY MARTIN
