VINAI is an Italian EDM project consisting of two brothers, Alessandro and Andrea Vinai. After forming in 2011, they came to prominence in 2012 courtesy of a string of well-received remixes for the likes of LMFAO (for whom they put a new spin on ubiquitous chart-topper 'Sexy & I Know It') as well as the queen diva of pop, Nicki Minaj.
Further remixes followed for the likes of Steve Aoki, David Guetta, The Chainsmokers and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and as you’d imagine from a roll-call like that, the guys are very much hot property when it comes to EDM.
Remixes aside, VINAI also possess the Midas touch when it comes to their originals. Tracks such as 'Bounce Generation' and 'Legend' are proof of the fact, but it was barnstorming appearances at Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival that really set the guys on the course to greatness and cemented their place at EDM’s top table. So where do the guys conjure up all the “crazy energy” they bring to their sets and productions? It just comes from our “crazy minds”, says Alessandro. We don’t doubt that one bit.
Over the last few years, brothers Alessandro and Andrea Vinai have taken up residence in our annual Top 100 DJs poll. In fact, 2019 marks their sixth successive year in the upper echelons of the chart. Given their standing within the EDM scene, it’s easy to see why. They recently unleashed one of the most talked-about hardstyle tracks of the year — a joint production with long-serving Austrian duo Harris & Ford entitled ‘Break The Beat’ — and also provided a typically bouncy rework of fellow EDM stars the Chainsmokers for a Japanese edition of the Brooklyn band’s most recent album.
The Vinai brothers’ continued presence in the annual Top 100 DJs chart is not based on the success of their productions, though, but rather the popularity of their dynamic performances and DJ sets. 2019 has been another blockbuster year for them in this regard, with headlining performances at Macau’s Club Cubic, an extended session in New York City, Exchange in Los Angeles, and Xe54 in Melbourne being amongst the duo’s many highlights.
Do you submit your DJ setlists to the relevant royalties collecting society?
“We do have a system through an Italian company named Siae that helps artists do that, yes.”
What more can we do to combat the mental health crisis in our scene?
“Don’t use drugs, they are not the solution to your problems! Always try to be positive and try to surround yourself with positive people — negativity is the worst.”
Are you personally doing anything to improve the gender balance of line-ups?
“We always try to support every gender.”
What changes have you made this year to be more environmentally friendly?
“We drive the car as little as we can.”
What was your favourite toy when you were a kid?
What’s your guilty pleasure?
“Eating, eating and eating!”
DJ style: “EDM bounce/hard bounce.”
Best known for: “Our songs ‘Bounce Generation’, ‘How We Party’, and ‘Raveology’.”
Fave tune of 2018: “We don’t really have one, but if we could pick an album it would be ‘Gravity’ by Bullet For My Valentine. Absolutely loving it!”
Breakthrough DJ/producer of 2018: “SayMyName.”
Spinnin’ Records stalwarts Alessandro and Andrea VInai have been bubbling under for some time, but it’s really only in the last year or two that they’ve really reached the top tier of EDM and “hard bounce” DJs. Now able to command huge audiences — both at colossal clubs such as Los Angeles’ EDM hot-spot Avalon, and at music festivals in the Far East — the Italian siblings are still coming to terms with their newfound status as a headline attraction.
“Being part of a festival is easy, but headlining it is definitely something else,” they explained to DJ Mag. “You’ve got all the pressure, and you have to make sure all the people that are waiting for you get a memorable experience.”
The pair have continued to rack up dancefloor hits, too, joining forces with LMFAO’s Redfoo on the sizable ‘Everything I Need’. They also got to work with Hardwell. “He’s one of our all-time heroes,” they explain. “It’s something we always dreamed about when we started this journey.”

Despite only forming in 2011, VINAI are a duo very much setting the EDM world on fire right now. Setting their stall out early with a series of club-ready cuts such as the ubiquitous EDM hit “Raveology”, these Italian brothers have seen their stock soar over the past year thanks to a reciprocal relationship with the all-conquering Dutch label, Spinnin’.
Collaborations with the likes of DVBBS, R3hab and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike prove that they’re not afraid of mixing it alongside their big-name peers either. Watch out for their new track, the curiously named “Techno”, which is out now on Spinnin’ – naturally - and promises to showcase a side of the boys we’ve never witnessed before. Brothers gonna work it out, eh?
