Tenth Circle is UK imprint Defected's latest project. A sub-label with a focus on rough and ready grooves and authentic house and techno, Antenna Happy has been tasked with the label's first release for 2015.
It's a year ago since house music legend Frankie Knuckles passed away, and to mark the occasion there's going to be an Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 this weekend (Saturday 4th April).
One mix was recorded live in London not long before Frankie's untimely passing, and the other is an unheard studio mix from 2011. The Essential Mix will be broadcast this Saturday between 4-6am, and be available on iPlayer for 28 days after.
“Meet me at the club,” urges the male vocal on Green Velvet & Patrick Topping’s ‘Voicemail’, the still-hot tech house update of the 2000-released original (‘Answering Machine’), out now on Relief Records. “That’s where we met!” says Patrick, explaining how he first rubbed shoulders with Chicago DJ/producer Curtis Jones, aka Green Velvet.
This week we will be joined by none other than Sam Divine & Shiba San.
'Pushing On' by Oliver $ (pronounced 'Oliver Dollar') and Jimi Jules is one of the tunes of the summer — and it's now being readied for a full release. Defected, the track's original label, have joined forces with Ministry Of Sound to give it a push towards the top of the charts.
And the video has just been unveiled. Watch it here:
You can't glance at the UK Top 40 at the moment without stumbling upon some house music track or other — and there's little doubt that 'Pushing On' by Oliver $ & Jimi Jules is about to join the ranks. It's already one of the biggest tracks of the summer, a certifiable word-of-mouth grower, and it's about to be massive. In the UK it's being released by Ministry Of Sound/Defected on August 31st.
This May, we launched DJ Mag Sessions at Ministry of Sound. Snatch! boss Riva Starr joined Inner City star Kevin Saunderson, Lost Records duo Leftwing & Kody and Dale Howard in The Box, which was rammed close to capacity.
Rene Kristensen aka Noir has a reputation for being incredibly chilled out, and he's not entirely sure why. But it could have something to do with coming from the “nice and quiet” Aalborg in Denmark, his hometown, that he still resides in.
Whether it's re-issuing rare beauts, trotting out instant classics or delving into the underground with its DFTD spin-off, Defected is undoubtedly one of house music's most crucial labels.
Its yearly residencies at Pacha and innings at Ushuaia have also made it one of the island's most popular parties over the years, and its affiliation with BoOom! last summer proved it even further.
