On the brink of Space’s final ever Closing Fiesta, DJ Mag Ibiza asks Carl Cox to list the top ten tracks that will remind him of the famous super-club forever. From Daft Punk to Booka Shade, here’s the top ten tunes closest to Coxy’s heart...
“This is the track that started it all for Joris! It’s this massive, piano-driving tech-house monster, and it was breaking all dancefloors.”
There is one story told by Simon Shackleton which perfectly crystallises his status as the polar opposite of the stereotyped ‘Hollywood DJ’, all champagne-spraying, crowd-surfing, cake-throwing personality chasm.
When we picked up Joe Carson, aka Courage, for our Cheeky Bubblers feature back in July, we knew he'd be perfect Fresh Kicks material — and boy has he delivered!
The Lincoln-born, London-based DJ/producer has already landed several hits, most notably with RAY BLK's 'My Hood' featuring none other than grimestar, Stormzy, a massive official remix of 'On My Mind' by Ellie Goulding and his 'Icarus' single for Black Butter.
Award-winning US house DJ Erick Morillo has announced his first UK tour in more than 10 years, taking in seven of the nation's top venues from 18th to 27th November.
Hitting up the likes of Egg LDN, Dublin's Button Factory and South in Manchester, Morillo will build up to a double whammy of a grand finale — firstly playing the Back to Basics 25th anniversary show at brand founder Dave Beer's new club, Church, in Leeds, before heading north of the border for a free Colours party at SWG3 in Glasgow.
House producer/DJ Duke Dumont ended his performance mid-set on Saturday night after some deplorable punters spat on and threw drinks at him.
A video taken of the show at Union Hall in Edmonton, Canada captures the moment when Dumont cuts off the music and announces that people are abusing him from the balcony above the stage.
"I'm sorry guys, people up here are spitting on me, throwing drinks at me," he says over the microphone. "I know you guys have paid good money, but I don't get paid enough to get spat on. There's spit all over the CDJs."
After meeting in Ibiza over a decade ago, James Rial and Richard Burkinshaw formed Audiojack — a collaborative production/DJ project that’s seen them travel the globe and establish their thriving imprint, Gruuv.
Originally hailing from Leeds, the duo moved out to the White Isle full-time several years ago, where they now spin every Sunday at intimate, locals-only rave cave Club Veto on Sundays, plus continue to spearhead releases from the likes of A1 Bassline, H.O.S.H and Cera Alba for their label.
Moon Harbour honcho, Matthias Tanzmann, has revealed details of his forthcoming new album 'Momentum', set for release via his label on 7th October.
The German producer's second full-length effort come eight years after his debut LP, 'Restless'. Comprised of 10 tracks created over half a decade, 'Momentum' is said to offer a variety of tracks, both hard and downtempo, that are "loosely rooted in house music."
Hannah Wants has issued a statement in response to allegations that her new track 'Found The Ground' is a copy of Joy O and Boddika's 'Mercy (Boddika VIP)'.
Over the past few days, a video (which has since been removed) showing the similarities between the two tracks went viral, with many social media users accusing Wants of plagiarism and often graduating to abhorrent personal attacks on the UK DJ.
Coco Cole is Ibiza’s newest recruit. She’s put down roots on the island for the first time this year, after being asked by Martin Solveig to be a season-long resident at his popular Pacha-based party, My House. “Martin Solveig came into Capital XTRA to do a back-to-back mix with me for the Clubbers Guide and we super-vibed off each other playing tunes and nerding out about music,” she tells DJ Mag, excitedly. “Then, a few months later, I got the offer to be his resident all summer. I couldn't believe it, he's such a mega babe. I'm eternally grateful.”
Joseph Capriati is the rapidly-rising Italian techno star who's broadened his sound out for Ibiza to inject more groove into it. Leaving behind the Music On night with Marco Carola at Amnesia on the White Isle, he's teamed up with Jamie Jones for some dates at Paradise at DC10 this summer — playing some back-to-back sets with the Hot Creations man in the process — and has been busy setting up his own new label and touring the world.
