Timedance boss Batu is curating a new festival in 2020, En Masse.
The Bristol-based UK techno and bass don is taking charge of programming for the small capacity event, which will take place close to Abergavenny, Wales, running 12th - 14th June next year, with the intention of offering something "different to a lot of the more corporate operations we are all used to."
London-via-Birmingham's Barely Legal is a mainstay of the UK scene. An artist who has been at the forefront of the underground bass world for almost a decade, the DJ and label owner has spent 2019 playing gigs everywhere from Munich to Ibiza, and performed at Croatia’s Hideout, Creamfields, and Snowbombing. As the year winds down, Barely Legal is finishing up her Pretty Weird tour, a label affiliated party series, which has been touring the country since August.
For Point Blank’s latest track breakdown video they joined Suitman Jungle at his home studio in East London to see exactly how he creates his high-octane, live drum-infused tracks.
It has been a month of difficult decisions for many. Not least the DJ Mag team, who had to try and figure out how to rank events in order of importance for what’s looking like the strongest month for UK clubs we’ve seen in some time.
Fabio & Grooverider have confirmed the return of their seminal party, Rage.
Rage, the legendary club night that ran between October 1988 and 1993, will return to its home London home Heaven on Sunday the 8th December, running in two rooms from 6PM to 1AM.
Fabio & Grooverider will play three hours of Rage classics in the Rage Room, joined by DJs from the original parties, Trevor Fung and Colindale. There will also be music from Bushwacka!, and a live PA from Shades Of Rhythm.
Bound for hell in a homemade vessel the UK may be, but at least this month gives us plenty of opportunities to go out dancing.
Beyond the sound, cohesion is extended by a strong visual look. Every piece of artwork, though often different in immediate style, is created by the design company UTILE, of which Fieber’s brother is one half. Fieber counts himself “super lucky” to have his sibling on board, and explains that “he is very much the designer. I might give him a brief here or a little idea there or something, but it’s all down to him really. He puts it all together.”
“I think if there’s one record that I’d play to someone from my label, who doesn’t particularly like drum & bass, or doesn’t know what drum & bass is, or doesn’t know what I am as an artist, it would probably be that record.”
Records themselves are a big part of the Astrophonica story, with every release currently pressed to vinyl, with unique artwork, which fans can buy bundles including t-shirts and risograph prints of.
Dexta, boss of experimental drum & bass label Diffrent Music, teams up with Iliad, aka one half of Conduct, to deliver ultra-hype anthem 'Popcorn Riddim'.
Coming via the new 'Pick & Mix Vol. 1' compilation on Diffrent offshoot Sweetbox, the track is the very definition of a club banger, purpose-built for multiple rewinds.
Dropping in almost immediately, a tidal wave of hammering breaks and ruthless bass wubbs is unleashed, barely letting up for the track's four-minute run-time. The choppy arrangement, however, means there's a bouncy, upbeat groove throughout.
Coco Bryce drops a full EP of original material on Western Lore this month, and we've got A1 cut 'Come 2 U' for an exclusive first listen.
The 'Beats Like This' EP will be the Dutchman's first full solo release on the label — which is run by Bristol stalwart Dead Man's Chest and was nominated for Breakthrough Label at our Best Of British awards last year — though he appeared on the imprint's 2018 'Blunted Breaks Vol. 1' compilation.
LMajor teams up with Mani Festo this month to deliver the second edition of 'Club Glow', the mixtape series launched last year by Denham Audio and Borai.
Split into two sides packed with original tracks, the A features 11 cuts from Mani Festo, while the B brings together a whopping 17 new tunes from LMajor.
A compilation mix from each artist has been recorded to cassette tape, plus all tracks will be available separately via digital download.
