Apple have made its flagship music-making product Logic Pro X free for 90 days. The move was made in light of the current global coronavirus pandemic, particularly for students who are being forced to work and study from home and might not have access to their university facilities. But anyone can take advantage of the offer – it's not been reduced on the UK App Store yet but keep your eyes on the Apple website for the announcement.
On-demand streaming has surpassed 1 trillion in the US for the first time.
During November, Nielsen Music reported that combined audio and visual streaming had surpassed 1 trillion for the first time ever in a calendar year. In the same period in 2018, week commencing the 21st November, there were 765.2 billion audio and video on-demand streams.
The entire number of streams reported in 2018 was 901 billion, which shows 31% growth year-over-year through to 2019.
Apple have announced AirPod Pros, the next version of their popular AirPod wireless earbuds. The Pros bring with them a new noise-cancelling technology, using the microphone to detect external sound and cancel it out. Apple say the new buds cancel at up to 200 times a second. The Pros also come with a small, medium and large customisable bud size for different fits – all three sizes and Apple claim the Pros have up to 4.5 hours of listening time.
Serato has updated its software to support users using the recently released macOS Catalina.
Introduced earlier this month, the updated Apple software, macOS Catalina 10.5, included the removal of Itunes and the addition of a new Apple Music app. The changed caused users of Pioneer DJ's Rekordbox and NI's Traktor programs to experience compatability issues, with both companies advising people not to update the software until a fix has been released.
Mac OS X Catalina, the latest version of Apple's operating system, is now available to download from the App Store. As has been heavily reported, the new OS brings with it the demise of iTunes, replacing the long-serving app with Music, a new music library and streaming app that combines Apple Music and what was your iTunes library. New apps Apple Podcast and Apple TV replace the TV and podcasting aspects of iTunes.
Apple Music have extended their free trial period for new users.
In a move similiar to Spotify, whereby the streaming giant changed its 30-day trial period to three months, Apple Music have joined forces with LivingSocial to increase their gratuitous period to four months.
The forthcoming iOS13 update may enable Spotify control through Siri.
The latest iOS update was revealed in June and is scheduled to be rolled out in September this year. During the announcement at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, new SiriKit updates for third-party access were announced.
The updates will enable service providers to integrate Siri in their apps for verbal user commands, with users able to request music on Spotify with no app installed.
Apple has launched a new service called Apple Music For Artists.
The platform will act as an analytics tool for all artists using Apple Music and is currently available on iOS devices as a desktop interface and standalone mobile app.
Apple Music For Artists will allow any musician who has music available on Apple Music to analyse exactly how their releases are performing in different parts of the world and check out with which types of people they're performing best.
Apple have upgraded their flagship DAW Logic Pro X to version 10.4.5, adding some new features that show off the power of their recently-announced Mac Pro. The new version has increased the maximum track count from 255 to 1,000, as well as offering 1,000 Aux channels and 12 sends per channel strip. There's also now support for 1,000 instrument tracks, for extra ambitious projects.
