Behringer plans affordable clone of classic Minimoog Model D synth

The technology’s patent has now expired...

Behringer founder Uli Behringer has revealed that the tech giant intends to build a budget clone of Moog’s classic Minimoog Model D synth.

The announcement that Behringer are set to make a replica of the vintage synth, which was originally made in the 1970s, was made on the Gearslutz forum.

Behringer are free to clone the classic synth as the technology is now over 40 years old, meaning the patent on its engineering has expired.

Speaking about cloning the classic Minimoog synth, Behringer described the process as a “rather minimal engineering effort”.

The news follows the announcement that Behringer are set to release a line of affordable synths later this year, which retail for just $49.
