Spitfire Audio, creators of orchestral and experimental sample instruments, have teamed up with legendary composer Philip Glass to create a new instrument based around his piano called, appropriately, Philip Glass's Beloved Piano. The plugin, which is available on Spitfire Audio’s website as a free download, consists of a multi-sampled instrument of Glass’s personal baby grand piano, recorded in his NYC home and has been released to celebrate the artists’ 85th birthday.

The piano has been in the same room since the 1990s, and it's here where it was recorded – it was used on pieces for soundtracks like Notes on a Scandal, Kundun and The Hours.

The instrument comes with six presets that span more experimental, reverb-heavy tones as well as simple, dry piano samples. Glass said of the piano: “My piano has been my piano for 30 years. I have a tuner who makes it sound the way I want it to sound. When I’m writing music, and if I play it, it’ll be on this piano.”

You can download the instrument for free on Spitfire Audio’s website, and watch the video below to hear it in action.
