While undoubtedly an endangered species, the outdoor club terrace lives on through Space Miami - a club blessed with the one of Downtown Miami's few 24-hour liquor licenses.
A hedonist's rave chasm rather than a poser's VIP showroom, the true Space Miami experience is all about losing vast chunks of a sunny Sunday afternoon while raving to the best underground tech beats on that legendary outdoor terrace - although its booming main room is a total beast of a main room. An established bastion of quality in Miami's notoriously fickle clubbing landscape, Space Miami gets sweaty and steaming to DJs like Steve Lawler, Steve Bug, Troy Pierce, Heartthrob and Magda most weeks.
"There's a certain element of wrongness about the Space Terrace that people love? it's magic," says Toolroom's Mark Knight. "The atmosphere, being able to play 12-hour sets, the sun coming up in the morning across the Terrace dancefloor set against the backdrop of Downtown Miami. Nowadays, night clubs are often diluted by people who are just 'out', but if you go to an after-hours or daytime party you get 'party people', who are there because they love the music."
