The story of Rex Club has been told countless times. Occupying a space in Grand Rex, one of the most iconic cinemas in Paris, which itself is among the most filmic cities in the world, dance events were first held here in the aftermath of World War II, although it was Laurent Garnier’s decision to use the venue for his Wake Up party series in 1992 that marked the beginning of the venue’s current life.

Refusing to stop for breath since then, or veer from a policy of underground electronic beats, over the last 12 months a complete refurbishment has taken place, but the history and legendary atmosphere are still prominent from the moment you arrive. Hosting regular soirées with the likes of D’Julz, Chloé, DJ Deep, Acid Arab, Folamour and Traumer at the helm, Rex remains the French capital’s go-to spot for house, techno, electro and disco, with added heritage.

Praslea, Sonja Moonear, Ellen Allien, Octave One, Raresh, Mr. G and Daniel Avery are among the luminaries to have stopped by since DJ Mag last compiled this poll, all making the most of a world-class, crisp and commanding 56-speaker d&b audiotechnik rig.
